Description

Regardless of how you plan to use the Ninja, you'll want to think about some add-ons. A battery is one. Atomos doesn't include one; instead you just get a power supply so you can plug the Ninja into a wall outlet. That's fine for use in a studio, but you'll need a battery to work with it in the field. The contents of the standard edition, without the accessory kit, are shown below. The main options you need to pay attention to when you start are the video input settings, and these should mirror the options you have selected on the camera.

With a super bright 5” HDR display the Ninja V gives you increased dynamic range on-screen. Add to this the flexibility to record up to 4Kp60 over HDMI 2.0 or SDI* in a range of codecs including Apple ProRes, ProRes RAW and Avid DNxHR. With Ninja V you have complete flexibility to capture every detail perfectly during filming and have maximum latitude in post. Yes, there is an increase in file sizes over standard footage recorded internally, but it’s a price worth paying for the boost in quality that you can see. Changing white balance, altering colors, rescuing highlights and shadows are all much easier on ProRes files.

The ProRes RAW Advantage

The Shinobi’s frame is all plastic so feels much less substantial than the Ninja. This makes the Shinobi a lot lighter at only 196g without a battery. Unlike the Ninja the Shinobi just has 1/4 threaded mounting points top and bottom and this one doesn’t have the locating pin holes. Screens By taking advantage of the long-range RF transmission patented by Timecode Systems, AtomX SYNC can be used alone or in combination with AtomX SYNC, UltraSync ONE and UltraSync BLUE to synchronise apps and hardware devices.

If you shoot a mirrorless camera that has a clean HDMI output, there is often a huge improvement in the quality of the footage if you output to an external drive. Most cameras record 4:2:0 in 8-bit internally, but via HDMI can output 4:2:2 in 8 or 10-bit. That gives a lot more color information and is a huge benefit if you are shooting Log footage to maximize dynamic range. The Ninja V doesn’t handle LUT’s in the same way. When applied a LUT still shows how the image will be effected but it also effects the exposure tools including the waveforms, scopes and the false colour display. This means that by using a lut you can no longer trust the exposure tools on the Ninja V. Ninja V is a stand-alone system for 4k UHD, HDR and high frame rate capture that eliminates expensive, complicated and unreliable PC setups. Ninja V enables simple recording, monitoring and instant review. Capture every detail in HDR and automatically include all the correct HDR flags ready for upload to YouTube. Ideal for games development testing, pre-release capture sessions or just to show of your skills! ATOMX SYNC Making multi-camera mainstream
