Description

The Yamaha FG830 is going to have the upper hand in this head-to-head bout, but let’s highlight some key moments. Price The Nashville Capo is a simple spring capo design. Spring capos are popular with players who value their speed and simplicity. Other spring capos have 2 major problems. Good for advanced players who don’t have the budget for higher-end guitars (they’ll still be happy with the sound they get). It has replaced the now-discontinued FG730S, which reigned as a popular choice in the cost-effective, solid-top segment. However, the FG830 has some improvements and features scalloped bracing. Let’s take a closer look at the important aspects of the guitar.

Also, you get the popular Dreadnought body, which may be a bit larger than what you’re used to but is still comfortable. The fingerboard radius is 400 mm (15 3/4”) with an 11 mm string spacing. It’s pretty standard and quite comfortable compared with other dreadnoughts. It’s a non-cutaway model, so don’t expect to go beyond the 14th fret with any grace. However, that ought to be plenty for most people. With time and technology moving on, Yamaha have managed to stay true to the original vision of the FG Acoustic Guitar series by continuing to produce affordable yet high spec instruments. Quality, Innovative BuildEvery now and then I forget how much it costs and starting wishing for more depth in the low end. But truth be told, it could easily compete with something twice the price. If the specially-designed X-scalloped bracing still doesn’t give you the volume you need, you can opt for the Yamaha FGX830C, the acoustic-electric cousin of the FG830 with -SURPRISE! – a cutaway! Lastly, some smaller adults and kids may find this dreadnought body to be a bit too large for them. For those cases, I recommend the FS830, the concert size guitar. And if you missed it above, I will be posting a review of that guitar shortly. Also, here’s a comparison of the sizing between the FG830 and the FS830. How new to playing you are is probably a factor – if you’re starting out, the FG800 is perhaps the best choicebecause it is less expensive, and you’re unlikely to hear the difference in sound you would get with the FG830. Despite a few issues resulting from mass-manufacturing without the quality control required to ensure each guitar ships flawless, the FG830 is a well constructed acoustic once its detriments are corrected. Body

Yamaha’s engineers have achieved this sound by utilizing analysis and simulation to arrive at the best bracing design without depending on tradition or guesswork. At this price point, you can expect a guitar that will be nice to play for a long time, but probably won’t be the instrument you’ll want to stay with your entire musical career. In any case, the Yamaha guitar punches way above its price. It’s not an entry-level model for a beginner. This entry-level guitar from one of the best-known names in the business is a great option for those new to playing. Like the Yamaha FG series, it’s based on the Dreadnaught model, meaning it can be on the larger size for smaller or younger players. However, unlike the FG series, it doesn’t have the quality of sound, a result of Fender using laminated rather than solid wood. Saying that, for those new to playing, this probably isn’t that noticeable, meaning it’s a good value-for-money guitar. Pros and Cons: Pros

Most of the negatives, if you can call them that, pertain to the saddle, nut, and bridge pins which are made from plastic. The buyers who made this comment tended to be seasoned players who also indicated that this has a simple remedy, a low-cost upgrade. Prominent Features Strong, stable, and durable, meaning it will withstand the wear and tear that comes with traveling (for those that plan on taking their guitar on the road). Playing can be a little more difficult due to how close the strings are to each other, meaning you might need to watch your fingering. Seriously… If you are a beginner or intermediate player, this guitar will hang in there as you grow and improve. I honestly believe that because Yamaha has been making this line of guitars now for five decades, and has worked out the bugs, you can be assured of its durability. The feel, playability, and sound quality will for sure make you think you are playing a higher-end, more expensive guitar. ConsThis is a truly classy acoustic guitar that you won’t regret buying! Yamaha continues to champion quality and value with the FG830 model. RLCDN sets this cookie to provide users with relevant advertisements and limit the number of ads displayed. Some guitarists may also find the action a bit too high. If you are among them, either string your instrument with .011 strings or have the action lowered by an expert.
