I do not like facial piercings and could never find them attractive, so Hale never appealed to me one bit. The whole premise seemed a bit awkward and unnecessary, and the drama of faking didn’t seem to be enough to base a story on.

Kyra is living in 1 room of her house while things are being fixed, but when she goes looking in rooms she sits in a window seat in the front of the house, only to find it has a hidden compartment. McDonald does not just stop there, but continues on to explain that humility and soaking in God's Word is essential to leaving the state of a Faker and enjoying the freedom that comes from Jesus Christ's life, death, and resurrection. The other characters rounding out this ensemble are Cade, Hale’s younger brother and partner in business and Kyra’s neighbor, Stevie, who is an artist.Winding along the road to Emmaus, Join two friends on the road as the joy of the first Easter dawns.

Even her followers never saw the real her, everyone just lets her by with her fakeness…Until Hale that is.The clean font and blog-style paragraphing, along with quirky little line drawings by André Parker all mean Faker is a pleasant and easy read. Collett handles these topics well, but wraps them in adult situations and some sexual scenes which she describes in graphic detail. Paul is portrayed as overwhelmed by her beauty, and her liking being adored by him despite his “thinning hair”.

The journey of happiness is not instant but takes time and Meg Collett highlights that in this book. The book is a reminder of the power, relevance, and excitement of God's word, and I believe it could spur teenagers on to read the bible for themselves. Toward the beginning of the book Kyra makes a comment that either she doesn't swear or very rarely does, yet throughout the rest of the book she has quite the potty mouth. Nicholas McDonald's Faker is a fast-paced and humorous exposure of how many of us live every day--faking it. So when she said she would be writing a romance, I knew I would give it a shot even though I just can never get into them. This book followed a story line I've read before about a woman moving alone to an island to an old home and renovating it and falling in love with the contractor! A non-fiction book aimed at the middle school aged reading level revealing true stories of just what the title says over the course of history. I defy anyone to not feel great after they have read this story, even more if they had the pleasure of listening to it from Michael Dean's voice. I disliked the love interest and the best friend - Hunter and Stevie, they were not my vibe and the premise of the book, being about how all the characters are fake and hide behind masks, for different reasons and just not being their true selves wasn’t portrayed very well.
