While the 990's are really similar, they are tighter on the ears, and I don't like that at all, but they are still quite comfortable. What Hi-Fi?, founded in 1976, is the world's leading independent guide to buying and owning hi-fi and home entertainment products. Our comprehensive tests help you buy the very best for your money, with our advice sections giving you step-by-step information on how to get even more from your music and movies. Everything is tested by our dedicated team of in-house reviewers in our custom-built test rooms in London, Reading and Bath. Our coveted five-star rating and Awards are recognised all over the world as the ultimate seal of approval, so you can buy with absolute confidence. Bought for a friend for their new studio. Tested them and the sound is much better than I anticipated. Solid and clean bass, with good spacing/imaging and clear highs. My friend is in love with them and has escalated their ability to produce music. For this price rage, I couldn't recommend them more.

With that being said, I love the by some considered sharp highs of the dt-990's, everything sounds crystal clear, not "muddy" or "washed out". I listen to a lot of vocals so that's a must for me. But as I said, it ain't for everybody since some might say the highs are over saturated, and they are, but it sounds nice. It's something I'm looking for in headphones, are you looking for that? If not steer away from these headphones. Cons: they might be too sharp for some and too tiring if used in long sessions. Other cons are the fact that you can really hear if a song is mixed/mastered like shit, you can hear everything. I'm not gonna say sh*t like :"you suddenly hear instruments that you previously didn't hear" if you suddenly heard an instrument that you didn't hear before on decent headphones that's on you. But you definitely hear if someone didn't bother cleaning up the samples he used in his song, and you might need different headphones or speakers to enioy songs that are badly mixed. The low end was ok in most cases. It didn't have impact, weight or transient as DT770 but it is there. This is what I thought before I moved to the other music genres.

These headphones are available in two models with different impedance: 80 Ohms and 250 Ohms. On the one hand, the 80 Ohms model is suitable for a variety of studio applications; they are very versatile. On the other hand, the 250 Ohms model is professional-grade. The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 Ohms Headphones are best for mixing and mastering in the studio. We were not surprised to learn that many popular DJs are using these headphones for mixing and mastering. We’ve also listed the DT 990 Pro as one of the best DJ headphones. Gaming The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones are ideal for gaming. I dismantled the headphones, the cups inside are the same, with the same number of holes, they close tightly. this is to protect against channel imbalances such as in the DT250/(80 or 250 ohm). The soundstage is wide and the instrumental separation is great. Therefore, Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro is good for gaming, studio recording, and casual use. In simpler words, if you want clear and beautifully transcending highs, and decent lows, you should definitely buy these headphones. Noise Isolation My first impression when I played some music was like: "My ears! It hurts!" because of the amount of high-frequency content. This was the reason to do the first test with high-frequency rich genres like Trance and Techno.

However, it is not too overpowering. The treble boost is powerful and sounds sharp. The mids are mild, and the low and high frequencies are clear. To be honest, the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones sound better than some of the best surround sound headphones. Nevertheless, if you want more power, you can couple the headphones with one of the best headphone amplifiers on the market. The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones have excellent sound quality.

The individual calibration by Sonarworks of the DT990s does a great job of reining in the top end brightness, providing a much flatter response that I found instantly trustworthy and clear. Overall, the clamping force is neither too weak nor too strong. It’s just perfect and won’t give you a headache if you use the headphones for several hours at a stretch, especially when mixing, mastering or recording in the studio. The spring steel headband means the ear cups can stretch out almost horizontal, too, so you will be hard-pushed to find a head size it doesn’t accommodate. For decades now, professional users all around the world have placed their trust in our classic range: DT 770/880/990 PRO. These benchmark-setting studio headphones, available in three different models, boast extremely detailed resolution and very transparent sound. In conclusion, the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones are suitable for solo listening as they do not offer noise isolation, and non-competitive gaming. The headphones are also great for bass-heavy music. We do not recommend these headphones for travel or outdoor use. Connectivity The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones come with a 3.5 mm connector and 1/4″ adapter. The headphones are neither too expensive nor too affordable. However, we bet you won’t get such brilliant headphones at such an affordable price. For decades our PRO headphones have been the reference for professional sound in recording studios all over the world. That leaves only one question: Which headphones are the right ones for you?
