This is the book equivalent of "oh silly you, have you tried using a calendar so you're not late/miss appointments? I was thrilled that they narrated themselves for the audiobook, since that’s now the only way I can read, due to my ADHD. If you (or anyone you know) may have ADHD, you may be fooled into thinking the 'symptoms' set out by the pair are textbook when they are decidedly not. I'm grateful for those willing to be vulnerable in sharing their stories but at the same time do not recommend this book to someone in the beginning stages of understanding their ADHD diagnosis given all the options out there that include a more balanced approach with anecdotes and science. Behaviour is a choice but symptoms can't be helped and shaming people (or internalising shame) for ADHD related struggles only makes everyone's life harder.

And to paraphrase the great Kathy Burke, this is not so I can be considered ‘woke’ but so I can be considered less of an ‘ignorant f*cking tw*t’! If I'd have one criticism (and I do) is that the book (and the social media) are from the perspective of helping the ND partner function in society and how much the NT partner is doing, how aware they are, how patient, loving and understanding. But Rich was what mainly caught my attention - I'd never seen someone so in tune with ADHD who didn't have it. After reading through the negative reviews I felt I had to add to my own (original review at the bottom).

This summary provides a condensed overview of the original work by Richard Pink and Roxanne Emery, aiming to give readers a glimpse into the thought-provoking content in a concise format. I’d recommend this book for anyone struggling with deep despair caused by the ADHD in yourself, your relationships or your family; it’s full of hope, genuine compassion and practical tips. I now try not to get frustrated and remember that we see things differently, and that assistance and gentle reminders really go a long way! I get to share the light-hearted moments now, only because I somehow made it through the really dark ones. I really liked the fact that you get the perspective of the person with adhd and also the person who lives with them.I did briefly say to myself "I'm never late", but I could hear my entire family laughing uproariously in my head at that notion and quickly came back down to reality. If you’re like Rox and have lived with diagnosed or undiagnosed ADHD, you may have struggled with this.
