When it receives a Dolby Vision signal the TV defaults to the IQ option, which adjusts the tone mapping based on the measurements from a light meter. It’s a more sophisticated approach compared to the Adaptive Brightness control offered with SDR content. Still, purists might prefer to use the Dolby Vision Dark picture mode at night, thus retaining the original artistic intentions. The out-of-box settings needs tweaking, and if you’re not interested or au fait with this side of TV set-up, you may not like the image the TCL initially offers. Thanks to a winning combination of aggressive pricing and increasingly acclaimed performance, TCL has in recent times risen from pretty much nowhere to rivalling the likes of Samsung and LG with the number of TVs it shifts each year. The 65C815K is also notable for how exceptionally slim its screen is at its outer edges. So much so that you’d be forgiven for thinking it must be an OLED rather than LCD TV.

Forza Horizon 5 in 4K with all the options turned on is truly the stuff of dreams and you could mistake it for a real-life racing broadcast. The TCL C745 supports every version of HDR – HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), HDR10+, and Dolby Vision, which means you’ll never have to compromise, and the dynamic metadata in HDR10+ and Dolby Vision allows the TV to produce some genuinely impressive tone mapping.

Second, bass can be lighter in its contribution to the overall soundstage than the large size of the rear bass driver had me hoping for, and can also cause a little chassis buzzing under extended bass pressure. While QLED means “Quantum Light Emitting Diodes“ which with the application of phosphorescent crystals gives bright and vibrant colors, improving the overall experience. Again, brightness alone doesn’t guarantee picture quality. In conjunction, though, with the C845K’s high dimming zone count and the fact that it uses Quantum Dots to deliver high-volume colours capable of capitalising on all that claimed brightness (TCL claims coverage of 97 per cent of the digital cinema DCI-P3 spectrum), we can’t help but at least hope that the 65C845K is going to do something pretty groundbreaking for its price point. Browse 400,000+ movies and TV episodes, all in one place*. Google TV™ brings together movies, shows and more from across your apps and subscriptions and organises them just for you. Discover new things to watch with recommendations based on what you watch and what interests you.

The video processing and upscaling are also impressive, with the C745 doing a great job of upscaling lower-resolution content to match its 4K panel, and the processing helping to minimise any nasty artefacts in heavily compressed streaming material or low-quality digital TV channels. The TCL C715 supports Dolby Atmos, but it isn’t the over your head surround sound kind. Still, with Atmos/5.1 content (The Amazing Spider-Man, Passengers, Skyfall), there’s a sense of height as Spider-Man swings through New York. And, as Bond sets after assassins at the beginning of Skyfall, the sound is convincingly expansive, clear and detailed, offering some decent welly as things get hectic.IG Pakistan Score: Based on all the C735 does for gamers in the incredible price, we give it a solid 9/10. The subwoofer, meanwhile, eagerly underpins everything with far deeper bass than you get with most TVs, while only occasionally breaking down into mild distortions with the most extreme movie bass lines.
