Description

Machine is reasonably quiet and runs smooth, no play in shaft. The housing is a combination of fibre enforced strong engineered plastic and aluminium. It is well made and finished which is good. Every now and again I buy something that I simply cannot find a fault with and this is one of those items. This is a high quality powerful router that fully lives up to it's reputation. I would recommend this tool to anyone seeking reliable router with power to spare. different ways to adjust the height of the cutter/router so that you can be super accurate in an easy manner! I’ve long considered my Bosch 1619EVS to be my favorite 3-1/4HP router, but priced just under the Bosch online, the Triton TRA001 is a serious contender. Where Bosch wins on ergonomics and well-controlled power, Triton takes the lead with innovative features and raw power. If you do much horizontal routing and/or precise template routing, because of the handle design and finely-tuned power, I’d probably recommend the Bosch. However,if you’re a single router shop and do a lot of plunging and table work, the Triton should be a top choice. For amulti-router shop, the Triton is a fantastic choice for the table. Triton TRA001 Router Specifications

One final thing - my model did not come with the half to quarter inch collet reducer which is a shame. It appears to be included with the cheaper MOF model and, I have to say, I found this omission perplexing! Even taking into account the couple of minor criticisms I have about the router, overall, I am absolutely delighted with it and would recommend it especially for home made table mounting. It suits my needs perfectly. I was looking for an additional router to hang permanently in the table and this looked the ideal unit as it offered some exceptional features which i’ll List. I have to say that it hasn't changed one bit! I would have thought that after all this time I would have been able to find something wrong but I am happy to say that I haven't! Every job I have thrown at this router has been performed not just adequately but extremely accurately and efficiently.

‘The BEST’ just got better: Triton’s new TRA is almost here

I have to say that it hasn't changed one bit! I would I own most of the other routers on the market at this price point. For this review I will state what I like and dislike as compared to those other routers. Sadly I had to return my router for repair after only a week of use. The reason why this is a pro is because customer service was excellent and the return was a breeze. The Triton TRA001 lives up to its reputation in both hand held and router bench modes. The soft start and variable speed adjustment provides greater control while delivering the power to cleanly cut through hardwoods. The Power is also enough for anything you can put in a router, there it's no limitation in this machine there.

There is a fine adjustment that will literally move the bit up or down by just a hair; this is also invaluable for rabbits, slots, or even just getting that nice roundover without the horrible line that always needs sanding out.Supplied here in 240v with a range of accessories including: 1x Table Winder, 1x 1/2" Collet, 1x 12mm Collet, 1x Multi Function Fence & 1x Collet Spanner. Still a really good concept, but not Festool quality, but then it is unfair to compair with a machine that cost 3 times as much. I also use a small Festool router so I can compair the quality feeling. Further gains have also been made in the cut area. The TRA002 retains an impressive plunge depth of 68mm, allowing above-the-table bit and collet changes, but the TRA002’s 70mm maximum cutter diameter dwarfs the original TRA001’s 55mm capacity. Overall I like the router. I guess the only thing I'd chage is some of the parts feel like very cheap plastic. Like the plunging height stops and the plunging shaft. I have a feeling I will have the same problem in a few months because I use the router a lot.

The ONLY downside that I can think of with this machine is the cost - it IS expensive. That said I cannot recommend it highly enough for more reasons than mentioned above. I bought this tool a month ago... I have to admit I was slightly intimidated by this router as it is the most powerful I used so far; but I found it easy and safe to use. Its features are super useful and far from being gadgets! It is also a Dual Mode Router as you can either use it as a normal plunge one or you can also table mount it AND it comes with a winder handle to adjust the height/depth of the router bit whence used as a table mounted one! Big, Beefy router capable of easily handling the toughest material. Ate through 1 3/4 inch mahogany like it was nothing. Undrilled: This plate comes without any predrilled mounting holes. Alignment marks engraved on the underside make it easy to center and mount any router using the detailed instructions that are included with the plate.I have had my Triton for a good while now and it works flawlessly. I bought it specifically for use in a router table and I especially like the fact that no lift is required to lift the router above the table for bit changes and adjustments. A great feature and a serious cost savings. Use this bestselling plunge router in a variety of woodworking applications to achieve the perfect finish every time I chose this router because I was putting together a new router table. I really wanted to ease the challenge of adjusting the cutter height so it could be done either from above or from the side, and the choice seemed to be either a router lift (very expensive) or this router. There are few alternatives out there that offer the above-table adjustment that this does. I chose this, and I don't regret it. Above-table bit-change is easy. It's very powerful. Dust extraction from the machine is pretty good too, and far better than I've managed before. My only gripe is that access to the switch is required to enable you to raise the bit enough to change the cutter, and that restricts table design. The bottom line is an attractive one, though. It's a powerful, precise machine that delivers well on many axes. And it's exceptionally cost effective. For the money, there's really nothing else that is even close. In a table, I think you have to spend much more than twice as much to get any increment at all. I'm delighted with the choice I made, and recommend it strongly for a table.

The handle on the lifter will not clear a fence that is higher than about 4.5" so you can't lift the router in a continuous motion with a tall fence - you can do it with a bunch of half-turns. How about selling an extension rod or a longer one? Motor is surprisingly quiet relative to other routers of similar size/power (I have a Porter Cable 3 1/4hp router and it's loud!) The power switch has a plastic window you have to slide out of the way to switch on power. This is really inconvenient with the router under the table. I suppose mounting another switch to the table saw could solve that problem. Or, perhaps breaking off the plastic safety window. The Precision Router Table Insert Plate is available in three versions, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs. Attaching a hose to the vacuum port interferes with the the lifer rod so you have to push the hose out of the way to attach the rod. Apart from the evolved components added to the electrical brain of the TRA002, there are some visible additions. The cut area has been redesigned and enclosed to create a hyper-efficient cyclonic-dust-extraction effect, which is coupled with a new extended vertical hose and swivelling extraction port. These new features will make the TRA002 the cleanest-operating router on the market. Other additions include a bright LED worklight to improve visibility during hand-held operation, and the base now features a guide bush plate, making the new TRA002 ready for Triton’s range of guide bushes straight out of the box. I did have a problem with the plunging shaft. It broke on me. But, to be fair.. I use it a lot on, and off the table. Costumer service worked very hard to solve the issue. Offered to have it fixed by an authorized repair specialist. I am very mechanical so I repaired it myself after I received the free replacement part from triton. It's still under warranty, so they sent me the part with no problems. Initial setup and use are a bit confusing. They could have invested more time giving step by step instructions in the manual. I'm a visual person so an instructional YouTube video on initial setup, use, and maintenance would have been helpful. I would consider myself a woodworker of moderate skill and it took me a long time to figure out the features. Even now I don't know that I understand all its capabilities. In fact, I saw a store clerk move the router up and down smoothly pushing in the button while rotating the knob on he side. I had no idea it could do that! (Forehead slap)
