Even so, he hadn’t heard Queenie. He said she must be somewhere in the house. ‘Did you look in the bathroom?’

Based on a true story, Queenie of Norwich is the compelling tale of one remarkable girl's journey to womanhood. Well of course he was wrong,’ she said. ‘Men are not normal, Chrissy. That’s one thing you’ll learn if you ever get married.’ Pottermore - News: "Meet wand designer Molly Sole: a real-world Ollivander", by The Pottermore Correspondent

Turn, turn, turn,’ she said, and I moved my head as directed. She laughed and said, ‘No, no, I didn’t mean you. That’s the record. That’s the song. It’s by the Byrds.’ The name Queenie is an affectionate, or pet use, of the term "queen", and is thought to be derived from the Old English word " cwen", meaning 'woman' rather than a reference to the monarch or his wife.

Queenie’s story has been a long time in the making. After writing my first novel, Silver Darlings, I finally felt ready to take on the challenge. I was born Ellen Hardy in 1900, dragged up in Queen Caroline’s Yard, Norwich. There was nothing royal about our yard, and Mum was no queen.Channel 4 has the UK’s biggest free streaming service plus 11 television channels including: Channel 4, E4, E4 Extra, More4, Film4, 4Seven and The Box Plus Network. Through Film4 Productions, Channel 4 also invests in British filmmakers to huge critical acclaim, producing 37 Oscar wins and 88 BAFTA wins in its history. Why don’t you just wander around for a while?’ she had said to me. But I felt conspicuous. I couldn’t imagine sitting in a café drinking coffee and advertising to the world that I had nothing to do and no place to go. Or going into a store and trying on clothes that I had no hope of buying. I climbed the hill again. I waved hello to the Greek woman calling out her window. I let myself in with Queenie’s key. As such, Queenie attended Grindelwald's meeting in the Lestrange Mausoleum, giddily hearing about him describing the muggles as merely different, to protect from themselves and not oppress, and told Jacob Kowalski (who was warned of her presence there by Nicolas Flamel) that by joining Grindelwald they could finally be together. Jacob refused, leaving her heartbroken, but she still went away with Grindelwald to Nurmengard Castle, clinging on her hope of a future with Jacob as her husband. I also found the description of life in the "yards" very interesting and sometimes horrifying. Just to think in which circumstances children had to grow up. A window was heaved up in the house on the other side of the Vorguillas’. Mr Hovey, an old bachelor, lived there with his sister.Dionne Brown commented: “I am absolutely thrilled to be bringing Queenie to screens with Channel 4, Disney, Lionsgate and Candice. I’ve been in love with the book since the moment I read it so to be able to audition much less play her (Queenie) is a dream come true and I can’t wait for everyone to see exactly what we’ve been working on behind the scenes.” Queenie of Norwich is an addictive read, hard to put down, but it also brings to life much of the social history of Norwich in the early 20th century. Scroll down to read the author’s blog about this book. He talked about himself. He said he wished he had gone to Teachers’ College himself instead of choosing music which did not make for a very settled life. Her voice was full of such laughing surprise that I wondered if he had been told anything about my letter or the fact that I was on my way. So here I was stepping in blind. Little did I expect to discover more about the world of fair people and other lives as lived in factories, fields, tenements etc in the early 1900s.
