If you know you’re cooking rice with dinner, try preparing it in your slow cooker! You’ll get perfect fluffy white rice with no worries. Add your freshly-rinsed rice directly to your slow cooker. After you’ve finished washing your rice, dump it into the bottom of your slow cooker. Spread the rice with a spoon or the tips of your fingers to make sure it’s distributed evenly over the cooking surface, with no noticeable mounds or thin spots.

Food prepared in this way has the advantage of being rich in flavor and generally tends to be more nutritious because the lower temperatures don’t destroy the nutrients in the food. Combine in your slow cooker caramelized onions, mushrooms, broth, and butter. Allow this cozy rice dish to cook for 2 hours, and enjoy! You can see in the picture above I'm adding dried spices to this batch. You can, you don't have to. You can add just about anything and it will cook right into the rice.

I love to serve rice as a side dish, but I have a confession to make, I ALWAYS burn the rice when I make it on the stove top. You betcha! You can freeze it! You can cook up a huge batch, freeze it in portion sized baggies or canisters...and get it out as you need it. If you freeze it pre-cooked and flattened out in baggies it will defrost in about an hour. For a more sophisticated touch, I like to call these deconstructed enchiladas. They have all the flavor of enchiladas in a comforting casserole.

Make sure your slow cooker is properly hooked up and positioned, and that there are no objects nearby that could cause it to come unplugged accidentally. First, rinse your rice under cold water to remove excess starch from the grains. Spray your pot with oil, and add the rice and water.

Absolutely feel free to add your own blend of spices, flavorings, and more. I like to throw some vegetables in with my rice from time to time. Any frozen veggies will work or even fresh ones! Cook on high for about 1.5-2.5 hours. Stir the rice occasionally as it cooks but if you can’t, it will still fluff up nicely when it’s finished! Can I make rice pudding in the slow cooker? You can make instant rice / or instant mash potatoes so very easily……For rice follow the same recipe EXCEPT : No butter and no salt.When it is done cooking, let it cool and put it in your deyhydator and run it for 3/or4hours pull out your shelf and fluff up your rice. If it is not real dry to the touch keep drying it for several hours till it is bone dry. Now when you want some rice ,put 1 cup rice to 2 cups water or broth , BUTTER, and salt if you like. And if you are vegetarian or vegan you can use any approved oil or butter substitute.
