Description

New high-end phone releases are generally quite anticipated, shoppers always get excited to see all the new tech their latest toys are going to have. Unfortunately, regardless of having all the bells and whistles, sometimes they also can be a bit boring and the S22 Plus is a grand example of that. There is nothing wrong with the phone and it's certainly better than the 2021's Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus 5G, it just doesn't give any major reasons to upgrade if you have a high-end smartphone from 2021 and that's okay. But the owners of a 2020 model phone or older could certainly find something attractive in it to upgrade to it and we're here to describe the new enhancements they might like to have. Camera: Some Great Improvements The display of the S22 Plus is a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X one, which makes it 0.1 inches smaller than the predecessor. It has a dynamic refresh rate that goes from 10Hz all the way up to 120Hz to preserve battery life when on-screen elements are static and offer a buttery smooth display all the other times. The average brightness is also higher with the S22 compared to the older model. Expectedly, the colours are vivid with an impressive contrast ratio and the 2340 x 1080 resolution looks sharp. The Exynos 2200 chipset offers a strong performance with impressive enhancements - maybe not for the basic tasks but for the graphics and neural processing, it's a great jump. Battery Life: Practically Unchanged Proximity Sensor, Hall Effect Sensor, Light Sensor, Gyroscope Sensor, Accelerometer (G-Sensor), Magnetometer, Barometer, Fingerprint Sensor

As expected, the performance is top-notch across the board thanks to the Exynos 2200 chipset and 8GB of RAM. It's no better than Apple's A15 Bionic, but it keeps things more than buttery-smooth and snappy in all tasks and apps you could think of. The graphics performance here alone makes the S22 Ultra also a fantastic gaming phone - it handles games with no hiccups. The 5,000mAh battery here offers a day of usage on a full charge with fast charging as well as wireless charging support, but nothing more than that. We wish it lasted for more than that but a full day is still okay. We also noticed that there are some heat-related issues when performing demanding tasks, so beware of that as well. S22 Ultra: Price UK HDR, Panorama, Stereo Recording, Bokeh Mode, AI Features, Night Mode, Scene Detection, Slow Motion, Time Lapse As you may already know, the UK models feature a different chipset than the American and Chinese models in the name of Exynos 2200 rather than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Both series of chipsets are developed by Samsung, but there can sometimes be slight differences in performance between them. Regardless, Samsung promises up to 5% better processing performance for routine tasks whereas the graphics performance has seen a 40% bump and, impressively, the neural processing unit's performance gains are around an astounding 130%. This means the phone will certainly perform better than S21 and it will be significantly smarter in many cases like battery management. Battery Capacity: Could Have Been Better If you are someone who prefers Android, has a lavish budget and prefers large displays over compact form factors, then the S22 Ultra is certainly a no-brainer among the 2022 models. Featuring an almost undeniably beautiful design, the S22 Ultra comes with a 6.8-inch AMOLED display, running at 3088 x 1440 pixel resolution and resulting in a 500 per-pixel-inch clarity. With a dynamic refresh rate that goes from 1Hz all the way up to 120Hz, it offers fantastic functionality and vivid colours with everything you may possibly do on the phone. With the peak brightness of 1750 nits and Samsung's Vision Booster technology, the display performs great even under direct sunlight and stays comfortably bright whenever you may need it. Moreover, there is an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner placed on the bottom half of it and said to be quite secure. Cameras: No More Contour CutHDR, Panorama, Bokeh Mode, Night Mode, Portrait Mode, Scene Detection, Slow Motion, Time Lapse, Stereo Recording When it comes to the videos, 4K-60 FPS recording is here in addition to the fantastically sharp and cinematic 8K-24 FPS mode. The auto-framing feature isn't all that well refined, but the ability to pause the recording to continue recording a bit later is a great feature. Performance and Battery Life

The overall sensor design is superior in the S22, which is always great to see - the main lens goes from 12 MP to 50 MP too. But then the telephoto lens goes from 64 MP to 10 MP for some unknown reason. At least the optical zoom is now bumped up to 1.3x here from 1.1x. We know that megapixels aren't everything, but it's still a huge drop in photo resolution. Still, the overall photo quality is very satisfying. For their enthusiasts, the Single Take and Dual View modes are still here too. One of the strongest aspects of the S22 Plus is certainly its camera: While the main sensor is a 10MP (f/2.2) one, the rear camera module on the S22 Plus has the same colour as the metal body and consist of a 50MP wide (f/1.8), 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2) and a 10MP telephoto (f/2.4) sensor with an impressive 3x optical zoom. The main sensor is larger this year to get more light in. This, on paper, should translate to much better nighttime performance too, but they are still not exactly where we want them to be due to some white balance issues. Generally, the photos are crisp and bright, yet the colour accuracy is still not as good as the Google Pixel 6 Pro. On the other hand, the telephoto performance is simply brilliant and a massive improvement over the S21 Plus. Display and Chipset: Simply Premium
