If I struggle with the supplied navigation system what should I buy at reasonable cost - I don't want to pay more for the navigation than I paid for the rest of the gubbins ! We also appreciate the flexibility this Avtex model provides – not only can both Apple and Android devices be wirelessly cast to it, but it’s also 12v/24v DC and 240v AC compatible. Internet access systems are now available which can allow you to do just about everything in your caravan or motorhome that you would do at home or at work. Using satellites to receive and transfer data has the advantage of enabling the user to work anywhere within the satellite’s footprint – depending on local conditions and the size of the dish being used. Dedicated systems are usually mounted on a vehicle’s roof and provide communication to and from the satellite.

This includes models from Avtex, Cello and Sharp, so you don’t miss out on your favourite television shows when you’re on tour. Find out more about how to choose the best TV for your caravan in our ultimate guide to watching television in your tourer. While we haven't tested the TV ourselves, the specs are surprisingly generous for the price tag. You're getting an IPS 4K panel, which tend to provide wide-viewing angles, great colour accuracy and decent contrast levels.

You will be able to watch lots of UK channels (hundreds - 90% rubbish), but not at the moment Ch4 & 5. You get all the local BBC and ITV area channels, plus the extra BBC and ITV ones - but you only get 4 & % with a Sky system plus a working card. It worked superbly during this years annual hol, so Iwill not be bothering with analgue or digital terrestial again. I know this because its how I’ve been powering a pair of stereo speakers, the speakers you see above, which sit behind my 22″ Samsung Smart TV. Its actually got to the point where most people don’t want to watch live TV, they want to ‘stream’ content.

More and more televisions are being manufactured with DVB-T receivers built in and this removes the necessity for an external set-top box. Satellite digital television (DVB-S)

Best 8ft-wide caravan: our top picks

So once you have found that satellite signal, if you want to keep it, securely fix the dish into position with guy ropes. I know I can't receive Ch 4 or 5 at present, but what's the potential for these channels to become free to air in the near future?

Just how good is this system in France and what will I be dependent upon to receive a signal the further south I go - I read on this forum (or somewhere else) that someone was getting reception from as far south as Avignon !! However, that’s not the only commendable feature on offer with this 22-inch TV. There’s the built-in DVB-S2 Digital Satellite TV receiver, which lets you access Freesat, while Freeview can be watched from the comfort of your tourer, courtesy of the DVB-T2 Digital Tuner. Telescopic poles are available which can be extended to almost 12" but collapse down to a manageable 4" for storage. It is recommended that you have a 25-metre length of 7mm-diameter 75ohm television coaxial cable with a standard male coaxial plug at each end. So if you cannot get an unlimited 4G/5G data deal and you want to use TV streaming services, you’re going to have to pay close attention to your data usage.

What is the best TV for a caravan?

Receiving digital television by satellite has some significant advantages over terrestrial reception. For those who are travelling out in the wilds of Great Britain & Ireland, where terrestrial television signals are weak – if available at all – satellite is the best choice. And, for people who want to watch British programmes when they are abroad, satellite is the only available option. Through this method, you have dramatically improved the sound quality of your small portable 12V TV for your caravan or motorhome and taken up very little additional space.

I’ve previously written a fairly comprehensive post on how to get an internet connection in your caravan or motorhome. Therefore, I don’t want to repeat myself too much. Here I’ll just talk about the main choices, please read that post for more details. I can't get a picture at all in the van and had a poor pic quality at home when testing due to signal problems so this doesn't pull in a good reception. Can the TV be opened up and the receiver adjusted or replaced with a better one or am I better buying a new aerial for the caravan? The old one is an original Status 315 which normally works ok but can struggle in some places for reception. It is the receiver only[1]. To make it work you would need to add a dish + LNB + the cable to link it to the receiver. What I wanted to do was provide some tips on how to get the best viewing (and listening) experience from the small portable TV in your caravan or motorhome. Therefore, I’m going to skip recommending Bluetooth speakers and go for a much simpler (and cheaper) option.
