There’s just something that feels elevated about making another comedian laugh—especially one who was as good and as sharp as Meyer was.

This is the only reason why, when the biggest opportunity of Farley’s career includes thrusting him back into the spotlight to stir up publicity, he agrees— despite his grumpiness, his protectiveness over Hazel, and his disdain for public attention. I don’t want angst or anything I just want to escape for a few hours because my brain is fried and this sounds perfect. Told in a combination of flashbacks and present day, we get a feel for this couple’s relationship as it evolves from strangers to friends to comedienne/manager to lovers – with all of the longing and missed opportunities along the way.

I loved this book so much it gave me everything I love, it gave fake dating, it gave friends to lovers, it gave single dad, it gave everything! I wish we would have had a little more time with the couple as a couple toward the end, but still so fantastic!I loved that we got to see how Farley hides behind her humor, and there was a great focus on mental health and an openness about therapy.

She’s also entirely oblivious to any of the complications it causes her father, and he intends to keep it that way, which is maybe why I’m a bit in love with him, too. Please don’t get me wrong it is very entertaining (the swimsuit legit made me cackle 🤣), the jokes are present but more background and not overtly in your face.It’s a story that the author wrote for all the women that society deem as “too much” or “too offensive. Understandably, kids in novels aren’t everyone’s cup of tea in romance, but goodness gracious, sweet Hazel is the coolest kid I’ve ever read about in a romance novel and years from now, she deserves her own spin-off.
