We bought it last year and had mixed feelings about the content. The quality was fantastic but we were a bit disappointed with the inclusion of wrapping paper, gift tags, Christmas cards and ribbon. If you don’t want inky fingers, I quite like these VENT for Change pens from Ethical Superstore. These are made from recycled plastic and can be recycled again. I’m working on finding eco-friendly printer ink, so I’ll be sure to update this article when I find some that I recommend.

For notes or doodles that you don’t want to erase, then Wipebook has thought of that. The freeWipebook Scan Appsaves your work and uploads it to your favourite cloud service. This includes services like Google Drive, Evernote, Dropbox, and Onedrive, so you don’t lose your work. Paperchase folded in 2023 as a high street company with its stationery branding being bought by Tesco. It was one of my favourite stationary advent calendars, even though the products didn’t change that much each year. I’ve kept their calendars in this post more as a memory for myself than anything else. Paperchase Stationery Advent Calendar When it comes to eco-friendly stationery, it’s challenging to find a truly sustainable pen, because like in many areas of life, none on the market are perfectly sustainable. Now that it's officially exam season, students across the UK will be sitting down to revise all kinds of course content. Sure, it can be a daunting and stressful task at times, but half the battle is discovering which revision methods work best for you, and what stationery you'll need to get the job done. Untie using the silk fastening and open up your new Advent Calendar like a book to display its retro, candy-inspired design pride of place

My Account

The chain – which gained a cult following from pastel pen and cute notebook enthusiasts – closed all of its 106 stores this year after going into administration in January. But before the brand could disappear forever, Tesco came to the rescue, buying Paperchase’s brand and intellectual property so that its products could be sold in the supermarket. For me as a teenager, this shop felt like the height of sophistication. The shop sold a large assortment of stationery that no one needed but everyone wanted, from shimmering notebooks to pencils with oversized rubbers on the end, all somehow cooler than those to be found at Scribbler. Then there were the Christmas cards with moustaches on. Every Christmas, my older sister would impress the family by bringing home a selection of these cards, all the way from Leeds. This isn’t the first time Paperchase’s future has been in jeopardy. Founded in 1968 by two art students, it went through insolvency proceedings four years ago and closed some of its shops to cut costs. Another 30-odd, including the huge flagship in Tottenham Court Road, London, did not reopen after the pandemic. Now all its shops are expected to close, although the brand’s pens and notebooks will live on in Tesco supermarkets. Whether you are taking notes in a meeting, working out problems, or sketching down ideas, the Wipebook is a great solution for an eco-friendly home office. Once you’ve typed up your notes, simply erase them and start again, without any waste.

Talking of paper, if you need to print out documents then do consider shifting away from standard printer paper to using recycled printer paper. Charley has an MA in Journalism & Media Studies and undertook an internship at a travel magazine in Iceland. She still writes occasional travel and lifestyle stories when the inspiration strikes now, with work published in Cosmopolitan, Stylist, ELLE and Women’s Health, among others. I also felt the magic of Paperchase’s sparkly shops. Every year I used to look forward to the ceremonial purchasing of my annual Paperchase diary. I’d usually buy it in polka dot, or sometimes in a sophisticated cheetah print. At 14, I’d record a busy teenage schedule of homework and “sleepover” along with unnecessarily lengthy to-do lists.
