Description

This is your Leader, so you have to bring him in your Kill Team, but he’s also a decent fighter with a 3+ Ballistic Skill and a Bonding Knife that’s actually not a terrible melee weapon, Expectations are high for Chalnath, then. The first expansion to the new Kill Team system sees the Kriegsmen and Orks replaced with the Emperor’s most zealous followers, the Adepta Sororitas, and the blue-skinned advocates of the Greater Good, the T’au (or is it just Tau without the apostrophe these days? I can’t figure it out). WYSIWYG = What You See Is What You Get. This term is used to describe that a certain model can only represent the role / function it is built as and only use the weapons and equipment it was built with (excluding grenades - those are only really for decorative purposes most of the time, altough I wouldn't recommend putting grenades on units which aren't able to use them). To give an example. If you build the Plasma Gunner Veteran and you are attending in an official tournament you would only ever be able to play the Plasma Gunner Veteran as a Plasma Gunner Veteran and not as a Melta Gunner Veteran or Trooper Veteran.

Take control of Veteran Guardsmen from the blighted world of Krieg, and use their diverse skill set to bring down the horrors of the 41st Millennium. This is essentially the standard commsman you can find on other teams, but with a pulse carbine and markerlight on top of the ability to boost the APL of a friendly operative. It’s important to find creative uses for the +1 APL; one potential good target is whichever model is holding onto the High-Intensity Markerlight and Analysis Targeting Optic equipment combo. This allows that operative to move into position, markerlight, and fire away at the same target while effectively enjoying the benefits of having 3 markerlights (two from the high-intensity + 1 from the Optic).

Kill Team Terrain Rules From Chalnath

Despite their clandestine nature, Pathfinders don’t take to the field unsupported – specialist equipment gives them access to detailed sensor data from orbit, marking critical targets while the T’au remain safely behind cover. The Pathfinder kill team performs better when its operatives are working together for the Greater Good, and so a lot of the tips for the Veteran Guardsman kill team will also apply here. Pathfinders are still T’au though, with a very strong preference for ranged warfare, so here are some ways you can ensure they always fight on their terms. Octarius had significantly more in it when put side-by-side with the new Chalnath box. This is to be expected, though: Chalnath is an expansion; it’s designed to work in tandem with the original Octarius box. Drones and pathfinders, for every drone you take you lose a pathfinder operative. However most of them have their place on the team depending on what you’re looking for. Pathfinders

The first is removing the downside of your drone buddies, so you can do mission actions and control points as if you’re 2APL.Even more fun is their upgrade sprue, which houses enough parts to make 10 distinct kinds of operative, ranging from the relic-bearing Novitiate Pronatus to the Novitiate Exactor with her twin neural whips. Pathfinders have quite a few team rules, and using them all in concert takes some adjustment. I’d bet that people mostly recall markerlights, and Art of War when recalling their pathfinder horror stories though. Markerlight Finally, there are also bespoke ploys to help you demonstrate your devotion to the Emperor even harder. We’ve chosen a couple of especially fervent examples – Glorious Martyrdom lets you hurt yourself in exchange for extra faith points, while Aegis of the Emperor lets you hurt perfidious psykers just by closing your eyes and thinking really, really hard about how much you love Him. The Kill Team Compendium has not been included in any of the boxed Kill Team releases (so far), so you’ll have to buy it separately – and it isn’t cheap. As per the latest update, a Pathfinder Kill Team has 12 operatives (unless certain conditions are met, as explained below), rather than the 13 it had at release, and you can choose between the following operative types. Shas’ui Pathfinder (must take 1 per Kill Team)

Especially tall platforms can now be designated as Punishing Vantage Points, which enable operatives to take advantage of their commanding position to gain bonuses when shooting at targets below. They’re a T’au marksman’s dream, and even the close combat-minded Novitiates will appreciate the extra cover. The T’au Empire is a relatively young contender for power in the galaxy in the grim dark future of Warhammer 40,000, and they rely on extremely advanced technology and a civilization-wide commitment to the Greater Good to make up for their relatively brittle physique. They’re master tacticians who have a plan for any situation, and they’re pragmatic enough to change their plans as soon as the situation requires it, unlike some of the more dogmatically inclined zealots of, say, the Imperium and the Traitor Legions. Guns, lots of Guns– between pulse rifles (D4/5), rail rifles (D4/4, AP1, MW2, L5+), and ion rifles (D5/6, AP1, Hot), any time you land a hit it’s going to sting. Additionally you’re not bogged down with Heavy, Cumbersome, or other keywords which might stop you from moving around. As a big fan of the Adepta Sororitas and a former T’au Empire collector, I am absolutely psyched to get into the good stuff in this box. T’au Pathfinder Squad I mean, when it’s all finished it’s a seriously impressive collection of scenery. This is the kind of stuff that’ll find a home on armies on parade boards across the world this time next year. But, and there is, unfortunately, a big but, it is a real pain to put together. Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team: Chalnath Review – Price and Availability Tac op 2: Patient Hunter – If more than half of your team is concealed and you score more primary mission VP, you can score this. I’ve often found this to be too hard. When your team is 7w 5+sv, it’s hard to actually stay concealed on open boards, while somehow winning on primary missions more than 1 turn. I’ve generally skipped this. Drones are one of the hallmarks of T’au warfare and see frequent use during spec ops missions, with six different kinds available to Pathfinder kill teams. No matter which you choose, the Drone Controller Pathfinder will ensure they act with efficiency far surpassing their basic programming. Feel free to add décor to your models as described in step 13 of the Kill Team Chalnath Assembly Manual. I only really added additional décor to the more standard troop choices like Weapons Expert Pathfinders as well as Shas’la Pathfinders. It’s totally up to you which décor to use on which model, but keep in mind that less is often more in those cases and every added detail must be / should be prepped and painted properly.

Die-hard Kill Team fans and veterans, this is a box for you. Expensive though it may be, Kill Team: Chalnath is a promising step towards a bright future for Games Workshop expansion content. Sure, there are some fiddly bits amidst the models and scenery, but the end results can’t be argued with. As a box of miniatures alone, this would be an impressive (albeit pricey) release, but that it comes with all the literary content you require to take your games of the new edition of Kill Team to the next level makes Chalnath an excellent release. Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team: Chalnath Review – Introduction There’s a huge amount of optional extras with the Pathfinder team as well, so there are plenty of pistols and pouches that you can choose to attach to your figures should you so wish. Pathfinder Kill Teams are made up of one Pathfinder Shas’Ui and 11 operatives chosen from the following list: Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group, or our new Discord server, and make sure you enter the latest monthly giveaway for FREE today! This gives you 10 operatives and 3 drones, whereas one of those drones (MB3 Recon Drone) counts as two operatives. This gives you a full Kill Team consisting of two full Fire Teams. But there’s still some options you don’t have (operatives as well as drones) which really would be useful to be able to choose from if you plan to play competitively. The options we’re missing are the following: 2x Weapons Expert Pathfinders with Ion Rifles, MV33 Grav-Inhibitor Drone, MV31 Pulse Accelerator Drone, MV1 Gun Drone and 2x Shas’la Pathfinders to fill up the roster to 20. To get all the options now missing you’ll sadly need to buy another Box of Tau Pathfinders and a Blister of Tactical Drones (or you’ve got one drone top lying around in your bits box from another set) or you buy a single drone top from a Bits Store. This is necessary since the Tau Pathfinder Box only comes with two regular drone tops and you’re missing 4 drone variants to have all available. On a positive side, you get lots off leftover bits to use for decoration or for your Tau army if you have one. When you bought the necessary boxes / parts feel free to follow the second part of my guide. Again, these are not huge numbers, but they do give us some directional suggestions based on the six events we looked at. It is a bit concerning that Harlequins and Novitates won every non-league event in our sample, so it’s worth keeping an eye on those as we move forward. But again, this is not a huge sample of games – it’s going to tell us more about the relative value of some teams rather than giving us strict info on which teams are dominating. Kingdom Wargames MAJOR MADRID II The Novitiates are Battle Sisters-in-training, full of youthful zeal and a burning desire to prove themselves worthy of joining their power-armoured comrades. Their main sprue can be used to assemble a full team equipped with either autoguns or autopistols and razor-sharp swords, led by an experienced Sister Superior.
