Description

The Hike is a fast-paced nail biter of a thriller that twists and turns much like the setting it takes place in. Our characters are very real and relatable, It a little slow in the beginning as we are learning about our main characters, but when the girls hit the track thats when things get dicey, that feeling of being watched, the pressure of the environment looming down on them.

Mix into it the Norwegian mountainside, Nordic gothic folklore, and villagers that warned of a storm, but somehow keep ending up on the same trail? It starts out with one of the best opening sentences and from there it is as twisty as you think it will be. Apparently, I am a big fan of the destination thriller, and that is exactly what The Hike by Lucy Clarke is. I wish to thank HarperCollins Australia for providing me with a free copy of this book for review purposes. Liz, in particular, is determined to get them all out on the hike despite knowing the difficulties they may face. The overarching theme of friendship is a strong force in this tale, making the story at hand incredibly compelling. I don’t usually go for books like this, so in case you’re wondering why I decided to give The Hike a try despite the publisher description clearly indicating that this will be a totally insane and off-the-wall experience, it was because of two words that jumped out at me: video games. Every time I dive into one of Lucy Clarke’s novels, I cross my fingers and hope that it’s going to be just as good as the last one of hers that I’d read. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. The dialogue exchanged between the characters is shared in speech bubbles allowing readers to really get to know the characters and is a much more digestible read for reluctant readers.

As the group enters the exact zone where the missing woman disappeared, they get the feeling that someone is watching them. This is their annual ‘reconnect’ trip, very different from their normal lounge around the pool break away. Sunday Times bestseller, Lucy Clarke, is the author of eight destination thrillers, which include Waterstones Thriller of the Month, The Castaways, and Richard and Judy Book Club pick, One of the Girls.

Battling problems in her marriage plus burn out at work, Liz decides it’s time to take the trip she’s been dreaming of ever since she was a child: hiking the Norwegian trails. The revelation revealed there made me understand something about this book, like maybe there’s actually some rhythm to this madness, or maybe the madness is just the point. First 25% is a little slow as we get into everyone’s backstories, but then the pace picks up exponentially and it moves along quite quickly after that. To explain would be to give up spoilers, so all I’ll say is that my time with Crab changed everything. Wild meets Gone Girl in this breathlessly entertaining thriller, featuring toxic characters doing terrible things in a beautiful setting. With worrying signs that someone might be following them, the sun begins to set and exhaustion kicks in.

The wilderness hides secrets darker than they could ever have imagined, and if they’re not careful .On top of that, you want to find out what exactly is going on with the side characters, who keep showing up rather mysteriously. His writing has appeared in Maxim, New York, The Atlantic, Bon Appetit, The Huffington Post, the Awl, Gawker, Penthouse, Playboy, Rolling Stone, and on Comedy Central, NPR, NBC, Yahoo! Norway is Liz’s choice – she’s going through some things in her marriage and wants a more engaging holiday than just sitting by a pool. Each of the four main female protagonists has their own distinct personality and a secret of sorts, which is tested as the holiday in the wilderness unfolds.
