Dice are measured in millimeters (mm) from side to side, and while dice can range in size from 5mm all the way up to 100mm or more, there are a few dice sizes that are considered "standard": 5mm, 12mm, 16mm, 19mm, 25mm, and 50mm.These half-inch dice are frequently found in board games (although they are not as common as the 16mm dice). They're good to use when you need to roll many dice at once, since 8-10 will fit comfortably in the palm of your hand.

Cut six square panels from your scrap card. To get them all the same size, first cut out one and use it as a template to trace five more. To get the original square you can use our printable template, or measure and cut one to size to your own preference (you could make it way bigger than ours). It’s important that each corner is exactly square so that it fits together well. You might think that a dice created from cardboard wouldn’t be very durable, but’s it’s actuallyquite sturdy and strong. When used in the way it’s supposed to it should last a while–at least until the kids start peeling off the dots and poking scissors into the side (which happened the first time I made one BEFORE I got the chance to photograph it for the blog, cheeky kids!). Set the number of rounds for the game and the player with the highest total score at the end of a game is the winner.
