The seemingly lazy perception of Dylan as difficult, mercurial and unreadable seems to be about right – Heylin’s Dylan contains multitudes. “It was absolute agony,” says George Harrison’s wife Patti on meeting him. “He just wouldn’t talk. He had no social graces whatsoever”, yet when conversation turns to Rembrandt or Caravaggio, Dylan is loquacity itself.

Book Bob Dylan Biographer Clinton Heylin: Interview on New Book

I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction for an advance copy of A Double Life, a stand-alone set in London. We phoned up Heylin in England to talk about his research process, what’s in store for the next volume, and his favorite (and least favorite) Dylan albums, along with his favorite era of the Never Ending Tour. She is married to Tom a free lance architect, who is a stay at home parent to their two children, occasionally taking on freelance work while his wife is the major breadwinner. A Double Life is a dull tale about Claire, a doctor and traumatized woman still struggling with the violence her father inflicted on her family over two decades ago.The story is told by the POV of the daughter—Claire—who is obsessed with finding her father. She is now a doctor, leading a quiet life in London. Her younger brother Robbie is a mess, with an addiction to pain meds. They’ve both changed their names so their past can remain hidden. In each of her books, the narrator is on a mission to solve a crime while trying to understand the situation and study the people effected or involved. She always captures her readers with the technique and in depth super sleuthing as if they are involved in the search. Yo a este libro lo habría titulado como “Diario de una obsesión”, porque de eso se trata y no, como yo me esperaba de un thriller. Loosely based on the Lord Lucan case, A Double Life follows Claire, whose father murdered her nanny, beat her mother, and vanished without a trace when she was a child. Now Claire is a successful doctor in London, but each possible sighting of her father sends her into such a state of anxiety she finally decides to seek answers for herself.

Pavlova’s A Double Life is a landmark of nineteenth-century Russian literature. With its multilayered account of a young society woman’s mysterious transformation into a poet, the novella explores a host of social, spiritual, and aesthetic questions. Indispensable, particularly in this revised edition of Barbara Heldt's translation. Thomas Hodge, Wellesley College Clare is Colin's daughter. She has grown up to become an accomplished doctor and yet, the shadow of her father hangs over her head. Her brother is also affected by his father's supposed actions and turns to a life of drugs and rehab. Every time Clare hears of a sighting of her father, she becomes more and more convinced he is alive and living free. She is obsessed with finding him and bringing him to justice wondering always is he alive and feeling always that yes, indeed he is. I did really enjoy this book but found the ending somewhat unsatisfying so I have only given it 4 stars! Maybe I will need to read this author’s next book to resolve some of my questions in which case the ending is rather clever! I read Philby's first novel earlier this year and rated it four stars but said, "Knowing there are two more related books is a game-changer for me; this could well be a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ after all, as the one thing that made me unsure about it is answered by its having to perform “set up” duties for the next two books."I would’ve liked the two women’s lives to have become entwined earlier, as for most part, it was like reading two novels in one. The collision of the two stories was very clever although I did see it coming (sort of). The narrative follows both Gabriela a career driven senior negotiarior for the foreign office and Isobel a journalist for a local Camden paper. A man cannot live a lie and not be detected in it. He may sometimes live for years with a cloak about him, enveloping the dark side of his nature, but sooner or later the mask will be torn away, and the true man revealed. There are those who live double lives, who, like the characters in [Robert Louis] Stevenson's famous English novel [ Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886)], have the extremes of good and evil in their natures; but, for the sake of human kind in general, let us be thankful they are few and far between. She said she heard noises coming from downstairs so she went to see what they were. When she reached the landing she found her estranged husband with a length of pipe outfitted with tape. Despite Heylin's constant taking shots at other Dylan biographers this is probably the best biography of Bob Dylan written.
