The GW-5000U-1JF has a metal inner housing beneath its outer resin bezel, and that plus the metal screw-down case back imparts a real heft to the watch that makes it feel as substantial as it is capable. A power-saving mode extends the battery life (indicated at the bottom right of the LCD screen), though, with regular wearing, one should have little use for it. However, Casio chose to use quite exotic materials to have this watch stand out and to give it specific qualities.

Prior GW-5000 models were made in Japan, and we believe that the same will be true of the GW-5000U-1. Synthetic resin is the ideal material for wrist straps thanks to its extremely durable and flexible properties. Actually the way the 5610 strap sits on my wrist vs this one means that the 5000u actually sits better but has extra height and heft make it “feel” so much more. the older ones only display 1 world time I think, whereas the new ones let you select five pre-sets to scroll through (instead of scrolling through alllll the time zones on the older one).By pressing the upper left button, labeled “Adjust”, you can have the watch pick up the exact time from the radio signals (in my case, this signal comes from a tower in Frankfurt).

Although overall very positive, I mentioned some strange things about the Casio G-Steel GST-W130L as well. The 3495 module is also used in GMW5000 models and the LED light works beautifully on the metal models. Its extra-large size gives it even more protection than a typical G-Shock, and it is one of the toughest G-Shock models ever made. We previously had strong evidence that the G-Shock GW-5000U-1ER is coming to Europe, and now it is official.
