Description

Westland Citrus Potting Mix contains unique Seramis granules for optimum water and nutrient availability. Secondly, there is truth to worms and microorganisms disliking the acidity created by the addition of citrus in a compost mix. This is an old myth dating back at least to when I started seriously composting 40 some odd years ago. If you place something the worms don’t tolerate into the Subpod, they will move away into the surrounding soils and leave it to the bacteria and microbes to take care of.

First, there’s another question that needs to be asked… Are Citrus Fruits Considered 'Green' or 'Brown'? It is always a good idea to understand how best to use specific scraps before you include them in your compost pile. Fortified with iron which is a mineral nutrient that is absorbed by roots and the result is that the leaves become greener.

The best way to do this, is to stand plants on large saucers or trays filled with ‘Hortag’ or gravel and keep the water level just below the surface of the gravel. Take advantage of being able to use the whole plant, as this does the most good for your composting mixture. There are strategic ‘worm flow’ holes placed around the sides of the Subpod, allowing worms to freely move between the food waste inside and the surrounding soil. We’ll discuss these and other benefits further down, as well as teach you the correct methods for composting citrus. Earthworms are said not to like citrus … but they usually don’t enter the decomposition process until fairly late and by then the citrus part will have been decomposed enough by bacteria, fungi and other compost denizens that worms will have no problem with them.

They contain loam, sand, peat (or peat substitute), ground chalk and varying amounts of added fertilisers, according to their purpose. There are many gorgeous flowering plants that love acidic soil, such as camellias, rhododendrons, azaleas, hydrangeas, daffodils, nasturtiums! We can deliver to addresses in Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Dorset, Devon, East Sussex, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herefordshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London (addresses within the congestion charge zone will incur a surcharge) Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Surrey, Warwickshire, West Midlands, West Sussex and Wiltshire. As long as your citrus is in the middle of the pile, it should be decomposing rather efficiently for a cold compost pile. The Westland citrus potting mix provides the perfect environment to produce healthy citrus plants with abundant fruits. You’ll hear people say that you should avoid putting citrus into your worm farm at all costs because worms don’t like the acid levels of compost. As with the other citrus fruits, they have a high acid content, which you need to bear in mind when composting. However, its texture sets it apart, by promoting root growth and leading to stronger, healthier plants as a result. Though it is unclear why, many kinds of worms will not eat citrus peels until they have partially decomposed.
