Description

Lachrymarum is killed when an ornamental obelisk from the top of the building crashes into the ceremonial chamber, impaling her. Sarah meets an exorcist, Father Johannes (modern horror forefather Udo Kier), who explains much of this mystery. Noodle Implements: An urn contains artifacts sacred to the Mother of Tears, but except for her tunic, they're forgotten about immediately after the first murder.

Set in Rome this time, violent goings on start happening in the city as well as strange, unexplainable things that seem to be connected to the occult and something that may involve scientist Asia Argento. Mater Suspiriorum, the Mother of Sighs, is the oldest and wisest of the Three Mothers, her given name is Helena Markos. Although Nicolodi mentioned her version of the script again in an interview for Alan Jones' book, Profondo Argento: The Man, the Myths and the Magic, it was not used in whole or part for Mother of Tears. I saw it as part of a double bill with the original "black Christmas" - which is a really hair-raising film - so I was not particularly impressed by "Suspiria". The film begins in Rome, where some workers at a graveyard stumble across a mysterious coffin with a box covered in occult symbols chained to it.With help from the assistant curator Giselle ( Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni), Sarah opens the box and finds the tunic. Yes, it isn’t the masterpiece that “Suspiria” (1977) was, but it is still a damn sight better than “Inferno” (1980) and it’s a really good conclusion to the “Three Mothers” trilogy too.

Also at Cannes, Medusa's CEO Giampaolo Letta was quoted by Anderson and Gierasch as saying "This is going to be vintage Argento. One of the first things that I will say about this film is that, again, it was much more enjoyable than I expected 🙂 It had a certain feeling to it that I hadn’t experienced in a while. She heads to Marta's house, but once again Mater Lachrymarum's minions strike and Marta and her lesbian lover are murdered. Much of which can be seen in some of his other later works such as Jennifer, Pelts, or even The Stendhal Syndrome. and it has felt surprisingly good to go back and explore the whole story from a retrospective point of view. I Am a Humanitarian: Mater Lachrymarum and her cultists heavily engage in the murder of their victims and feast on their bodies.
