Purina is attending London Vet Show this year and will be bringing its expertise in the microbiome and dysbiosis to the fore. The company is also taking part in UK Pet Food’s, ‘Food for Thought’ stream with an enlightening lecture on the power of probiotics at 2pm on 16 th November. On Purina’s stand L50 there will be exciting opportunities to take part in a challenging game with prizes for those who hit the heights of the leaderboard, as well as coffees, refreshments, samples, and giveaways. Conversations on the stand will centre around tools and resources to help vets in practice, with access to evidence-based information on developments around scientific understanding of the importance of a healthy microbiome. Your dog will be at less risk of stress diarrhoea if you ease them into changes gradually and make transitions as smooth as possible. Some vets may recommend a pro-biotic supplement, which adds beneficial bacteria to your dog’s intestine to restore balance. Although you’ll be anxious to see the difference Purina ONE can make in your dog, please allow 7 - 10 days to ease the transition from his current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Purina ONE until you’re feeding Purina ONE exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets. No Supplements Necessary Treatment for dog constipation may be different depending on the cause. Possible treatments include medication, a stool softener, or a high fibre diet – whatever you need to keep your dog’s digestive system healthy so you can enjoy each other’s company without worry!

The tasty dietetic kibble is made from highly digestible ingredients which can help to reduce poor digestion and absorption. It also has a low fat content which is important if your dog suffers from a pancreatic condition. PURINA PRO PLAN Veterinary Diets EN Gastrointestinal is made with fat that is easy to digest and absorb, as well as omega 3 fatty acids and soluble fibre prebiotics. All of these help to promote healthy intestines and minimise poor digestion. Signs of colitis in your dog include seeing blood and/or mucus in their stools, diarrhoea, and frequently passing small amounts of stool. If your dog has chronic colitis, they may lose weight too. What causes colitis? The recommended feeding amounts indicated are based upon the average nutritional needs of an adult dog with a normal activity level (using a standard 8 oz/250 ml measuring cup, which contains approximately 96 g of Purina ONE). Factors, such as a dog’s metabolism, breed size, activity level, age and whether the dog is spayed or neutered, will affect the amount of Purina ONE needed to maintain an ideal body condition. The pet experts at Purina have provided the feeding amounts indicated as a starting point. If you find that your dog is losing weight or becomes overweight when fed these amounts, please adjust accordingly. To help your dog maintain an ideal body condition, monitor your dog’s weight on a regular basis, making sure that his ribs are easily felt and his waist is visible when viewed from above. Maintaining an ideal body condition can impact your dog's lifelong health. Making the Switch to Purina ONE Libby Sheridan, Scientific Affairs Manager at Purina explains that research on the microbiome has expanded enormously in recent years, “From the gut-brain axis to the gut-lung axis, it’s clear that disruptions in the microbiome can have a significant impact on many aspects of animal health and behaviour. Dysbiosis can result in clinical signs ranging from mild to severe acute or chronic GI signs, including diarrhoea, vomiting, decreased appetite, and weight loss and in fact, some treatment protocols such as antibiotics can themselves contribute to a worsening of dysbiosis, adding to the burden for an already compromised pet. We’re looking forward to having the opportunity to talk to veterinary teams about how they help nutritionally support the gut through such challenges.” Fibre, which your dog should get in their food, helps reduce constipation. This is because fibre absorbs water, which makes the food in their intestines bulkier and easier to pass. It also stimulates the movement of the intestinal tract and normalizes the passing of stools.

Easy to digest ingredients: highly digestible ingredients to help relieve the digestive system and support optimal nutrient absorption This highly-digestible PURINA PRO PLAN Veterinary Diets Feline EN ST/OX – Gastrointestinal contains increased levels of sodium and potassium, alongside high concentrations of essential nutrients. PURINA PRO PLAN Veterinary Diets Feline EN ST/OX – Gastrointestinalalso offers a high energy density from easy-to-digest ingredients, helping to reduce the workload of your cat's compromised gut. The limited protein sources can also help to minimise intestinal reactions, whilst prebiotic chicory inulin can improve overall intestinal health. The recommended feeding duration is initially between 3 and 12 weeks for balancing digestive insufficiencies, chronic insufficiency or lifelong pancreatic issues, and for 1-2 weeks for acute gut absorption issues or during/after acute diarrhoea. It is recommended that you seek a veterinarian's opinion before using or extending the feeding period of this food. Adjustments must be made for environmental conditions, activity level, body condition and breed size. As reflected in the feeding tables, smaller breed dogs can require 15% to 25% more kilocalories per pound of body weight than larger breed dogs. Provide fresh water in a clean container daily.Increased sodium and potassium content: can help to compensate for losses caused by gastrointestinal issues Your dog’s digestive system is fairly hardy (just think what they’d eat if they were allowed!), but it’s a good idea to monitor their appetite anyway. As well as what you feed them, remember that your family and friends naturally love giving your dog a bit of extra fuss, attention and treats too!

Should your pet's health worsen while using this product, please seek veterinary advice immediately PURINA PRO PLAN Veterinary Diets EN Gastrointestinal dog food is also suitable for puppies as the medium chain fatty acids are easy to digest and also provide a good source of energy.
