The procedure is much simpler if you own an NFC-enabled smart device, as you’ll be able to simply tap it against the camera to create a connection. For some time now we’ve got used to Canon playing it safe with a 9-point diamond formation AF system on their beginner DSLRs, so it’s good to see the EOS 750D (and the EOS 760D) encompassing a more sophisticated 19-point all cross-type autofocus system. Unlike some of Panasonic’s other models, it follows the same kind of form-factor as a DSLR, giving you a chunky grip and excellent handling. The same also goes for the Creative Auto shooting mode which groups background blurring options, ambience-enhancing colour tone settings, drive mode and flash controls into one mode dial setting. The Wi-Fi connection process can be a bit of a faff when pairing with a traditional smartphone, requiring you to first connect to the 750D’s wireless hotspot and then open the Canon Camera Connect app.

The 750D produces exceptionally clean images at low ISO settings and it’s only as you start to encroach ISO 800 that the first traces of luminance noise become apparent. This is a great camera that's capable of producing superb quality images which have much more detail than the 700D's.This is typical of a consumer-level DSLR, but it’s important to remember that when composing an image more of what you see through the viewfinder will be captured at the edges of the frame. As our lab results indicate, the 750D’s dynamic range is still a little way off the best results we’ve recorded from other 24-million-pixel sensors.

There’s also a new metering sensor that measures the brightness of the scene at 7,560 points, which is a significant step up over the EOS 700D’s 63-zone metering. The control layout is also almost identical to the previous camera's, making the upgrade very smooth. If you need portability and telephoto pulling power, the Micro Four Thirds format is an appealing option. This is something we’ve seen Pentax employ into a few of their lower-end DSLRs in the past, but still remains a feature we’re yet to see Canon or Nikon filter down into their beginner models. A light, polycarbonate body camera may become a disadvantage if you’re looking to mount giant fast lenses. Enabling live view also meant we were able to position the static autofocus point freely in any part of the frame. sensor from the 18MP EOS Rebel T5i / EOS 700D, the EOS Rebel T6i / EOS 750D keeps the older sensor's native sensitivity range of ISO100-12,800.

The 750D’s dynamic range results aren’t too dissimilar to those recently recorded by Canon’s EOS M3 that also features a 24-million-pixel APS-C sensor. With the 750D in Auto mode, the flash is free to pop and fire if the camera detects a low light environment, which can quickly get you thrown out of a museum or gallery. The imaging sensor is new, too, with a 24-megapixel resolution to match chief rivals, the Nikon D5500 and Nikon D5600. Flicking the on/off switch an extra notch enters the camera’s video mode and here the maximum native sensitivity setting is ISO 6400, expandable to ISO 12,800. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 is a new compact system camera designed to bring 4K shooting to the masses.Although it shoots at Full HD, that is restricted to 30fps, and of course, there’s no sign of the now relatively ubiquitous 4K.

Canon says it's about 4x faster than version II and two generations ahead of the original Hybrid CMOS AF system in the Rebel T5i. If your budget can stretch to the 750D, its advanced features and functionality make it worth the extra outlay. Canon's Hybrid CMOS AF III system (with Face detection, Tracking AF, FlexiZone-Multi and FlexiZone-Single modes) is available with the Rebel T6i / 750D when using Live View. Canon has also graced the model with a very respectable 5fps burst-shooting option, as well as both Wi-Fi and NFC so that you can get your images out without the hassle of cables. This displays a menu screen containing key shooting settings available for adjustment in the current shooting mode.
