work of Neil Gaiman, Selick has terrific fun building the landscape of the movie from the ground up. But, again, I don’t think you’d regret it if you picked this up in either the steelbook or regular edition. transfer - that’s not much of a difference over the already very good 2009 Blu-ray counterpart released by Universal. The release retains the remarkable supplemental package previously released on the Blu-ray Special Edition from Shout Factory. A side-by-side comparison of the mouse circus scene and the level of detail between the 4K and Blu-Ray is made clear.

4K UHD Review: Shout Factory’s Coraline (Steelbook Edition) 4K UHD Review: Shout Factory’s Coraline (Steelbook Edition)

Coraline on 4K Ultra HD sits in Steelbook packaging with new artwork by Cesar Moreno, alongside a 1080p Blu-ray of the film and a 12-page insert booklet featuring behind-the-scenes stills, concept art, and an essay by Peter Debruge. It is cleaner and yields even more details, with more nuanced gradations in the color scheme and overall vibrancy. Alone aside from some strange neighbors, Coraline seeks out stimulation, finding it in the strangest of places, like a hidden door in their wall that appears to lead to another dimension where Other Mother and Other Father live (replicas of her own parents, just with buttons for eyes). Speaking of the prior releases, everything included on-disc in the previous Blu-ray re-release is included here.

Coraline and ParaNorman were painstakingly remastered by the team at LAIKA, led by LAIKA CEO (and Kubo and the Two Strings Director) Travis Knight, and Visual Effects Supervisor Steve Emerson, who pored over each film shot-by-shot, paying close attention to every last detail and color to present these groundbreaking films in the most dynamic format. I have the 3D versions (sans Missing Link 3D, of course) and would sell off the prior version(s) I've already double dipped for.

A high-definition stop-motion animated feature — the first to be originally filmed in 3-D — with spectacular CG effects, based on Neil Gaiman's international best-selling book. The blacks are more profound and darker, yes, but their a luminosity and vibrancy of the image that – even when compared to the 2021 Blu-Ray Edition by Shout Factory this 4K Edition is leaps ahead.Special Features: Never-Before-Seen Coraline Animation Test Footage; Inside LAIKA Featurette; Foreword by Peter Debruge, Chief Film Critic for Variety; Audio Commentary with Director Henry Selick and Composer Bruno Coulais; The Making of Coraline; Original Featurettes; Deleted Scenes; Feature-Length Storyboards.

Coraline 4K Blu-ray (SteelBook)

The way they move in action sequences and how they're molded together is easily seen, providing an excellent-looking transfer. It’s a nearly breathless commentary as Selick pumps out an enormous amount of information, much of it unique to the track, though some of it spills over into the featurettes. Coraline receives a super upgrade from Shout Factory and Laika in the form of a new 4K SteelBook that has this cult icon movie looking the best it ever has. This new disc offers a remastered transfer that isn’t leaps and bounds better than the original release, but the new bonus features are pretty interesting and worth digging through. An evil monster who manipulates and controls events to lure unsuspecting children in and then steal away their life as she sucks them dry. While there are some differences from the original story, Coraline is about as perfect as an adaptation can get.

Coraline” for Shout! Factory and LAIKA Studios re-release “Coraline” for

Coralineis the kind of dark fantasy that Gaiman and Selick specialize in, but we rarely get in cinema. Those black button eyes and clay dark hair look exquisite and are distinguishable from other dark corridors and hallways. We receive no compensation from these companies for our opinions or for the writing of reviews or editorials. Coraline herself is the contrast as she wears darker colors like purple and black that act nicely as a foreshadowing tool to the other universe. This new 4K restoration of the film and Dolby Vision encoding gives everything an uptick in quality.
