Description

One distinctive feature of this game is that it combines trivia with identifying images and betting. Another is that players select the topics of their trivia questions. Once each player has played five turns, and all players have had a chance to cash in their sets, the player with the most chips wins the game. Arrange 12 cards in a 4x3 grid on the game board. Place extra cards on the "draw pile" space. Hand out five chips to each player. Choose a player to go first.

The board game does a good job recreating the four rounds of the TV show. It can feel a bit clunky to play the first few times as each round is very different, but it should get easier the more you play. There’s even a little trophy for the winner to hold at the end of the game. Whether or not the question is answered correctly, the player who identified the image keeps that card. Colourbrain A family-friendly quiz where every answer is a colour Players answer using multicoloured cards in Colourbrain. Betting Chips are not included in this game. To play with these rules you will need to supply your own betting chips (or keep score on paper).

Components

The questions cover a broad range of topics, from sports to pop culture and history, meaning it should cater to most players. It’s a great game for family gatherings. Similar to Shot in the Dark, Wits & Wagers levels the playing field by asking niche questions with specific answers such as “In inches, how tall is the Oscar statuette?” or “In years and days, for how long did Franklin D. Roosevelt serve as US president?” It’s a great game if you or someone you know is already a fan of the show, and might even help you convert them into playing more board games. Before the answer is revealed, you bet on which guess is closest to correct. Feeling confident? Bet on yourself. Think someone else knows better? Bet on them. Points are awarded based on these bets.

Players try to identify images on cards on the board. Once a player has identified an image, they are asked a trivia question related to the image. The player selects the level of difficulty of their question and decides how many chips to bet on whether they know the answer. Different question levels pay out different amounts: true/false questions pay 1:1, multiple-choice questions pay 2:1 and open-ended questions pay 3:1. To be the first to collect 5 cards by identifying images and correctly answering questions about the images. More recent versions of the game come in travel-size tins, which are great for taking out and about, but only contain 55 cards, so after a few games you may remember the dates. That limits replayability, but you can mix and match different sets (each of which have different themes, such as inventions or British history) to increase complexity, and older versions of the games have more cards. If he or she gets it right, that player must face one out of three types of questions: true or false, multiple choice, or open-ended. The number on your second die will indicate the type of question you are destined to face. If you get it right you get to keep the card. If you get it wrong, the card is discarded and the next player will draw a new card to replace it.

Object of the Game

That player then selects one card from the grid that matches the color die. Then use the description on the bottom of the card to identify the image on the card. If you correctly identified the image you receive one chip and have earned the right to play the trivia question to earn more chips. If your guess was incorrect your turn is over and the card is discarded It’s visually pleasing, with lots of tokens and chips to play with, and the base game contains over 500 questions, meaning it should last a long time before you have to repeat any cards. Colourbrain simplifies the trivia format by making every question about colours. Each player holds 11 cards of various hues, and has to place down the correct cards to questions such as “What’s the colour of the lid on a jar of Marmite?” The questions are a mix of general knowledge and pop culture, so kids and adults can play together - there’s even a Disney-themed version of the game. Eye Know has trivia from almost any category, including animals, objects, signs, professions, weather, transportation, celebrities, landmarks, tools, games, food, space, plants, appliances, company logos, musical instruments, activities, sports, politicians, clothing, car models, toys, weapons, countries, hair styles and capital cities. While Eye Know is appropriate for all ages, some of the content may only be recognized by an older audience and the spelling of certain words may prove difficult.
