He explains why it’s his favourite children’s book, how it captured his imagination and why he loves to read. This was done for different reasons such as the whole book series featuring characters from the Television series. Foster child Dinah is hiding a useful secret when she is housed with the brothers, and finds herself puzzled by her new school, by the immaculately turned out and behaved pupils, by the frankly hypnotic Headmaster, and by her new foster brother's treatment of her. She arrives in the story at the Hunters' house as a foster child, having been orphaned at an early age and brought up in a children's home. My favourite character was Dinah Glass, I feel like she loves adventure and mystery and wants to find.

In 2011, he starred in the smash-hit film War Horse, and in 2018 joined the cast of Mars – a drama that tracks the attempts to colonize our nearby planet in 2033. A fun story with equally fun characters and a plot that would keep even reluctant young readers engaged. One of the great characters of children’s books, the Demon Headmaster rules his school with his sea-green eyes through which he hypnotises the pupils. This is a story that I read as a child and thoroughly enjoyed, the fact that it stuck in my mind is why I decided to review it. The Demon Headmaster is a British television series based on the children's books by Gillian Cross of the same title.Since his time on the series, he’s known to most as The Cat in Red Dwarf, the humanoid feline with a flair for dancing and looking good at all times. What we have here is brutal cruelty happening to children (in one scene, the main characters are forced to labour in the snow without any protective clothing - this is Nazi-level abuse) and terrifying mind control and manipulation where children have no memory or control of what is happening to them - a strange man is able to stick pins into Dinah without her able to stop him, it doesn't take much imagination to think of worse that could happen. She's skeptical at first at their seemingly wild stories about how wicked the headmaster is, but she soon discovers the truth of it.

Cross' narrative is insightful, intelligent, and deliciously creepy, perfectly highlighting the evil that lurks behind comfort and conformity. Interestingly, my son read a library copy while I read our older one, and we discovered several words throughout had been changed, some exclamations softened for a new and obviously more tender generation. But the great thing about this book, is that you get to be a detective alongside Dinah, Lloyd and Harvey.
