Description

The main flavour is yuzu – giving a lifted citrusy gin that can be drunk neat over ice as well as with tonic. Gin is everywhere: on A-boards outside pubs and filling up supermarket aisles, dinner parties and drinks lists alike. Charles Tanqueray created the world's finest London Dry gin in 1830 and it is made today to the same classic, timeless recipe.

Tanqueray No. TEN Gin | 47.3% vol | 70cl | Award-Winning

Tanqueray London Dry Gin is the original product that was launched in 1830; its key botanicals are juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice. Tanqueray is a London dry gin, reflecting its distillation process and origin in Bloomsbury, London. Six botanicals, among them cloves, cardamom and cassia bark, are cold-infused into a gin for seven days, creating a pale yellow gin with a bright, exotic, spicy nose – think cloves, cinnamon and candied lemon. TEN carries a seal marking Charles Tanqueray's name, a symbol of quality, and more than 190 years of distilling excellence. Expertly made, Tanqueray’s top shelf gin reads as slightly more classic twenty years later than when it launched. Both of these releases were aimed at a new movement in gin, loosely referred to as New Western Style Gin, that shifted the focus slightly away from juniper to spotlight what other botanicals in gin can bring to the mix. Notable spirit ratings for Tanqueray included a string of Double Golds (for its basic London Dry) for 2005–2007 from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. In accordance with a report by The Spirits Business, Tanqueray was the highest selling gin in the world for 2016, with nearly three million nine-litre cases sold.

Tanqueray No.Ten Distilled Gin, Award Winning, 47.3% Vol, 70cl

Best enjoyed with premium tonic water, plenty of ice and a wedge of pink grapefruit, or with dry vermouth and a twist of pink grapefruit in a perfect martini. If the idea of an Indian gin surprises you, then it shouldn’t; the gin wave has rippled all over the world. Think of this gin as a tip of the hat to Charles Tanqueray, founder of the nearly two-century-old brand. Pour in gin and juice of half a lime into the bowl and let the mixture infuse in the fridge for 30 minutes.Since Tanqueray is one of the iconic London Dry Gins, it’s no surprise that the first aroma from the glass is indeed juniper, but it’s not just pine. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it is accurate, it is not a substitute for your reading the product packaging and label prior to use. It’s electrified by the addition of grapefruit and orange, which lift the spirit from its familiar botanical makeup — based on juniper along with chamomile, coriander, licorice, and more — to a whole different level. Quite notably, it is also the only gin to secure a spot in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition Hall of Fame. The small batch gin is crafted using whole fresh citrus fruits, such as oranges, limes and grapefruit, along with chamomile flowers and other traditional botanicals.

Gin botanicals explained - plus ten exciting gins to try Gin botanicals explained - plus ten exciting gins to try

With strong citrus aromatics and a core of warm spice, Tanqueray 10 is suited to a very different range of cocktails than the traditional Tanqueray London Dry Gin. Not so here, as TEN depends on fresh and whole lime, grapefruit, and orange in the distillation process to really make it sing. At Drink Spirits we tend to cover many new releases, and unfortunately that means that some of the great classic spirits don’t have coverage. It’s there centre stage in all the ‘classic’ gins – Tanqueray, Gordons, Beefeater, No3, Portobello Road, Haymans, to name but a few – but it’s not the only flavour. Every bottle carries a seal marking Charles Tanqueray's name, a symbol of quality and 190 years of distilling excellence. While there’s no doubting that ‘exotic’ doesn’t necessarily equal ‘better’, it’s also true that the explosion of styles and flavours has created an amazing choice. There's simply nothing that could be done to make this a better gin - it's as good as gin gets and is one of the great spirits of the world. While the Tanqueray recipe is a closely guarded trade secret, it is known to contain four botanicals: juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice, all common botanicals in gin productions overall. It is best enjoyed with premium tonic water, plenty of ice and a wedge of pink grapefruit or with dry vermouth and a twist of pink grapefruit in a perfect martini.
