Clever and inventive… great fun from an author with a superb sense of humour… this is a hilarious picture book for slightly older children and a great book to read aloud. We've read this to my son since he was 2 (now 4) and given copies to all our friends with small children and a fun sense of humour. In fact, I have discovered that there are several versions of the story from around the UK from Kent to Cornwall to Scotland – and even from as far away as New Zealand, dating back to the turn of the 20th century and earlier. He has written many other books for children, including King Jack and the Dragon, which was shortlisted for the 2013 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal.

It wasn't until I was reading it to him that night that I found myself thinking how utterly inappropriate it was- which ofcourse is totally appropriate for a five year old.Peter Bently lives in Totnes in South Devon with his wife Lucy and their two children, Theo and Tara. Our resources are crucial for knowledge lovers everywhere—so if you find all these bits and bytes useful, please pitch in. lots of dogs were going to a party and they had to take off their bottoms and hang it on a peg to get in. Once I got over the initial shock of what was pictured, I ventured on throughout the story and found it quite amusing.

He wrote stories as a child and has always been fond of rhyming (including writing his brother's best man speech all in verse). This marvellously mad book was recommended to me by my manager, after she read that a rugby team had taken it on tour with them because of its hilarity - they were right to! He has twice been shortlisted for the Book Trust Roald Dahl Funny Prize, which he won in 2011 with Cats Ahoy! I've decided to keep it on the shelf in my library, but will be better prepared when I see it go out again. All the dogs escape, but there’s a catch – they can only grab any old bottom from the hooks in the hall. But in the middle of all the frivolity something unexpected happens and the dogs have to make a hasty exit… with or without the correct bottom. The opportunity to work as a freelance illustrator and children’s book author came about as a result of my final year exhibition – after this I was contacted by publishers and agents, who I then went on to work with. But in the middle of all the frivolity something unexpected happens and the dogs have to make a hasty exit . Written in rhyming verse with the most engaging illustrations this very funny picture storybook is sure to raise a giggle every time it is read!As much as I love Mei Matsuoka as an illustrator, this story grossed me out a bit to be be completely honest. I love zany, odd whacky kids books, mostly for Story times at my library, and this story of how it became that dogs check that their bottoms are the right ones after a calamity at a dog's do holds the whiff (ahem) of promise.

A Lark in the Ark was Peter's very first picture book and was shortlisted for the 2009 Red House Children's Book Award. Mei is motivated by the passion to create something that touches people’s lives and hopefully leaves a positive impact on all. We understand that not everyone can donate right now, but if you can afford to contribute, we promise it will be put to good use.In their haste they all grab the first bottom they can reach in the cloakroom but unfortunately, they each take the wrong one. Much, much later, in 2006, my brother-in-law told my son (coincidentally also aged ten) a very similar tale.
