While at University, Stampy studied Video Production and received a degree in Film and Television Production. During this time, he also co-hosted a student radio show. He said of this experience, "I was pretty awful, but it helped my ability to speak unscripted." While at University, he also worked as a bartender in a Pub near his College. In all of these videos, the Minecraft skin that he uses is an Old-Gen XBox 360 skin which depicts the character "Fidget" from the video game " Dust: An Elysian Tail" Joseph Garrett was born in Hampshire, England, on December 13, 1990. He was raised there with his two older sisters. As a child, he developed a passion for video games, and his favorite academic subject was science. Of his school experience, he said: "I was usually one of the quieter kids in lessons, but I still liked to joke around!" His hobbies were reading and practicing Magic, and he was also interested in Pokémon. In Sqaishey's main series, Feather Adventures, they have an area named "Feather Friends pond" where they add and thank people for their amazing work (artwork, food, etc.) which were inspired by their main series or other series, much like what Stampy does. Stampy was the first ever person to recieve a copy of the book and has a "one of a kind" prototype.

Stampy voiced his own character in Minecraft: Story Mode, alongside other YouTubers such as CaptainSparklez, Stacyplays, LDShadowLady, DanTDM, and Bigbst4tz2. In 2015, when L for Leeeee x left the series in the episode "Bye Bear" any mentions of him in the love garden have no longer been seen since the video was posted. It is currently unknown weather or not he was removed from the love garden or moved to another location and Stampy has not commented on this at all. A few Minecraft YouTubers have used Stampy's style of thanking people in their own forms on their own Minecraft Let's Play series.I'm sometimes envious of people who have a 9-to-5 job,” he says. “People who can just come home and switch off. I never can.” He partly credited this work with building his confidence, due to the job requirements of speaking to strangers and dealing with stressful situations. At this time, he began playing Minecraft and uploading Let's Play videos to YouTube. When his videos began to attract significant attention, he left his job to focus completely on his YouTube career.
