The Alpha 7 processor doesn’t compare with what the Alpha 9 is able to deliver in terms of refinement and finesse. But without a side-by-side comparison, we certainly didn’t feel short-changed; its imagery is balanced and filmic – and when you’re gaming or engrossed in a movie, differential subtleties don’t amount to a hill of beans. Thankfully, this means you won’t be taking a huge hit to picture quality if opting for a cheaper model. But for cinephiles and picture purists, the BX falls short in a couple of key places. The BX and CX (and, indeed, the rest of LG's 2020 OLED range) feature HDMI 2.1 ports, and all the support required to exploit their full potential. This means 4K at the full 120Hz the panels can handle, Variable Refresh Rate, Auto Low Latency, the whole shebang for PS5 and Xbox Series X. But what of the audio? The BX offers 40W total output over a 2.2-channel system, just like the CX OLED (and last year’s B9). That’s fine for living room volume, and we rarely found ourselves pushing to the upper limits of this – although it does mean there are sets out there with more accomplished built-in audio systems, such as the Panasonic HZ2000 with its 140W audio and upward-firing speakers. Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality.

Panel without stand - 122.8 cm x 4.69 cm x 70.6 cm x 18.9 kg , Panel with stand - 122.8 cm x 24.6 cm x 74.4 cm x 19.9 kg x HDMI - side , 2 x HDMI - rear , 2 x USB - side , USB - rear , LAN - rear , Digital audio output (optical) - rear , Audio line-out / headphones - rear We start to see the differences between the panels here, although you have to look hard: both have the superior contrast advantages of OLED, and do an impressive job of covering the HDR and SDR colour gamuts. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. There’s also Nvidia G-Sync compatibility, VRR to combat frame tearing, and an ALLM game mode. All HDMIs support AMD FreeSync Premium, too. HDMI 3 is eARC/ARC enabled.Dolby Vision IQ takes Dolby Vision to the next level, making it the ultimate HDR-type picture processor. Dolby Vision IQ version uses data within the signal and light sensors inside the TV to adjust the picture quality for the best contrast. This improves the picture’s brightness, without ‘washing out’ the depth. You get a consistent picture quality, however light or dark your room is. Whether you’re watching a brightly lit sports event or moody movie, Dolby Vision IQ adjusts to suit. Approximate diagonal size of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the diagonal is calculated from the width and height of the screen. Audio Description (AD), time-shift, Wireless TV On, 10-bit support, Virtual Reality (360 VR) function, STT (Speech To Text), Time Machine, Ultra Luminance Pro, Freesync, 4K High Frame Rate (HFR), 2K High Frame Rate (HFR), Auto Device Detection, G-SYNC Compatible, Auto Genre Selection, Eye Comfort Display Overall, we found the sound remarkably well rounded in Music and Cinema modes and at volume levels of around 30 percent there was plenty of volume to make movies a truly home theater event.

By that logic the CX and GX ranges, with their Alpha 9 processors, should have the crispest, most detail-rich picture at all resolutions, while the BX should be less razor-sharp.In the UK, there are two key variants of the LG CX, the CX6LA and CX5LB. The former is exclusive to Currys PC World; all other retailers will sell the latter. The differences are purely cosmetic, as the CX5LB has a silver stand while the CX6LA is finished in dark grey. Panel specifications and picture quality will be identical, no matter where you buy the CX. Down-firing Speaker, text to speech function, Audio Return Channel (ARC), apt-X technology, Simultaneous Audio, Clear Voice III technology, LG Sound Sync, Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), AI Acoustic Tuning, AI Sound, Auto Notification, WiSA speakers, Bluetooth Surround ready The CX runs LG’s WebOS and supports every HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG – although not HDR10+. Sadly, while most of the major content streaming platforms are present and correct, most of the Freeview Play apps such as ITVHub, All4 and My5 have yet to appear. LG CX OLED review: Price and competition

We changed the subtype from WRGB to WOLED as it's more accurate and more consistent with other TVs. All 2020 LG TVs offer Nvidia G-Sync, if you’re hooking up a compatible gaming PC to your television. Although our Computing Editor, Bill Thomas, is adamant that this won’t benefit very many players. Big screens’ big vulnerability is usually sound quality. But LG has managed to significantly improve the audio with the BX much in the way it does with the nearly identically designed CX. In among LG's OLED Evo and MiniLED announcements at CES, there was a smaller one that flew under the radar. That's partly because LG wasn't giving much away, but even the few snippets of information there were had us excited.

The LG BX comes pretty close to the CX in terms of its picture capabilities, with some notable exceptions. LG's Magic Remote - one of our favourites. The pointer makes it easy to select things on screen, but even without it we'd be a fan - the buttons are well-spaced and easily differentiated. Streaming Dolby Vision material also looked good. Can’t get enough of Grogu? The Mandalorian looks equally impressive, whether it's dealing with rapid hand-to-hand combat or a slow pan of a prison junkyard.
