The 8-series OLED is its midrange model, making it the Philips OLED to get if you’re a film and gaming fan and have no need for the integrated sound systems that come with the more expensive 9-series OLEDs. Motion is also excellent with 24fps handling looking very good indeed with no signs of induced judder or image blur that are not natively present in the content, thanks to correct 5:5 pulldown being applied when Pure Cinema is selected in the motion menu. The Movie setting adds some De-blur and this is claimed to help with the effects of the sample and hold technology of OLED so it looks smoother without adding in Soap Opera Effect (SOE). However, I could tell interpolation was being applied when using this mode, even if it is subtle, but your mileage may vary and it may suit your requirements. Overall, the Philips OLED807 offers very good cinematic images with your SDR film and TV content.

Design, Connections and Control

Philips can’t resist also providing its own Movie mode, which adds a few enhancements to the “accurate” picture core. Sound: On paper, the Z2 has the same audio system as LG’s G2. Specifically, it comes loaded with a 60W, 4.2-channel, down-firing arrangement. But bizarrely, actually using it in our test rooms, our reviewers found the Z2 sounded miles better than the G2.

Design and features: The 42-inch C3 has a different design to its larger siblings that makes it look more like a monitor or bedroom TV. This makes sense as LG markets it directly to gamers and those living in smaller spaces.Sound: LG’s 2023 OLED TVs have generally been very disappointing in terms of sound quality, and the omens weren't good for the 42-inch C3 when you consider that small TVs tend to sound weaker than their larger counterparts. The 55OLED806’s audio support includes built-in Dolby Atmos decoding, while its smart features – finally – are provided for the most part by Android TV. Happily, it’s the latest version of Android TV, which is far more appealing to look at and more logically organised than earlier versions. Android TV now also carries pretty much all the big streaming apps that matter. Personally, I still don’t think it’s as easy to use, customisable or clever about recommending content as some rival smart systems; but it covers the basics at least. There are very few TVs that sound good, though, so we almost always recommend adding a soundbar. Follow that advice and the 48-inch C3 is comfortably the best TV at its size. It's worth noting that this higher-brightness panel is not used in the 48-inch version of the OLED+936, simply because LG Display doesn't make it in that size. Instead it uses the same OLED glass found in the rest of the Philips 806 range.
