The 43-foot long humpback whale is modeled after a real whale, the grand dame of the sanctuary, whose name is Salt. Sanctuary educators and volunteers can bring Salt for a specified time for student tours and an inside look at internal anatomy. Last month hundreds came to meet Britain’s Got Talent and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway star, Titan the Robot, as part of 20-21’s Robotic Showstopper event, and most recently, all ages came together to put on their dancing shoes and join the Folk Dance Remixed celebration.

A spokeswoman for the RNLI said: "Chiswick's RNLI crew were tasked by London Coastguard at 8pm on Sunday May 9 and worked with the fire rescue service, police and British Divers Marine Life Rescue to try to free the whale.
