Description

On the evening of Saturday 16th November 1957, Plainfield police visited the Gein farm in connection with the disappearance of local woman Bernice Worden. If taken as a metaphor for Gein’s deranged mind, the effect is such that we do not feel intimidated, yet, if taken as proof that Gein’s was not something peculiar, that his was not a case never to be repeated, this means that he was simply acting out a primordial need that is part and parcel of humanity (or, at least, of part of humanity).

Did You Hear What Eddie Gein Done? - The Comics Journal

In Chapter 11, Professor O’Hara explains your theory regarding the possibility that Gein’s mother had become a sort of deity to her son.I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that people aren’t being judged as harshly for admitting their morbid curiosities. Established author Harold Schechter who has written a previous book about Gein is paired with artist Eric Powell, known for his The Goon and Hillbilly graphic novels, and they proved to be a superb team to tell this tale. One of the greats in the field of true crime literature, Harold Schechter (Deviant, The Serial Killer Files, Hell's Princess), teams with five-time Eisner Award-winning graphic novelist Eric Powell (The Goon, Big Man Plans, Hillbilly) to bring you the tale of one of the most notoriously deranged serial killers in American history, Ed Gein. In terms of body count (which, in the world of true crime, is the sexiest statistic, the equivalent of home runs in baseball), he was pretty much a dud, tallying a meager two killings. I am also a huge comic book fan, so when I heard that Eric Powell was producing a Graphic novel about Ed Gein in conjunction with Harold Schechter, it was like the stars had aligned.

A lot of popular culture exists for just that purpose, which is pretty much why it consists primarily of sex and violence.Schechter and Powell are at the peak of their powers, and their collaboration on a graphic novel case history of the notorious Wisconsin necrophile/cannibal Ed Gein has borne a brilliant, insidious, terrible fruit. We don’t just make books, movies, television, comics, and music about serial killers; we make books, movies, television, comics, and music about the books, movies, comics…well, you get the idea.
