Description

If you've never seen a cherry pitter quite like this one, you're not alone. It's a unique design, and one that prevents you from having to grip and squeeze endlessly, which can prove challenging for many hands. Anyone who's planning on doing some serious cherry pitting will be well-served by this model. The Leifheit boasts an ability to pit up to 25 pounds of fruit per hour, and it has a large catch tray underneath to hold the pits as you go.

This cherry destoner can handle much more than just the sweet red fruits. It features a large silicone cup with flexible fins to hold food in place. As a result, you can pit anything that will fit into the cup. You can even remove the hull from small strawberries with this kitchen tool. I find that for most cherries, the slightly heavier 50mm paper clips work best. Smaller, thinner clips can be prone to bending with the weight of the pit. Unfortunately, yes, you have to remove the pits before cooking (and eating) cherries. Cherry pits are tooth-breakingly hard and actually poisonous! Cherry pits—and the pits of other stone fruits like plums and peaches—contain cyanide, which in certain doses can be lethal. If you have a metal pastry tip in your kitchen for cake decorating, it can pull double duty as a DIY cherry pitter. Simply remove the cherry stem and place the fruit, stem side down, over the top of the piping tip. Then, gently press down on the fruit until the tip pushes the pit through. This cherry pitter will have you making a wide variety of dishes in no time at all. For instance, it can pit cherries and olives of any size. The pits come out cleanly while the fruit is still left intact. Prepworks by Progressive by Progressive Cherry-It Cherry Pitter: Similar to the OXO multi-pitter, the tray-like pitter can handle up to four large or small cherries at a time—the tray is reversible for the different sizes—which is a great aspect. As I was testing it though, the pitted cherries didn't always release and sometimes bounced everywhere, leading to a mess. I feel you're better off with the OXO model if you want to pit more than one cherry at a time. Chewing around cherry pits is sometimes more work than it is worth. This Prepworks Cherry Pitter solves that problem by making the pitting process as effortless as possible. It is designed to pit up to six cherries with one single motion.

That’s when I scramble to make cherry recipes to use up these cherries. I end up making cherry pie, cherry cobbler, and cherry clafoutis along with adding cherries to my yogurt and breakfast cereal. And when I can’t eat any more cherries, I freeze the fruit for later use. Depending on the size of the cherries, I most often use Ateco’s 3/16″ plain tip (#801) or their ¼-inch (#802). When choosing a tip, remember that if it’s too small a diameter, it’ll be difficult to center on the pit, and if it’s too large, you’ll carve out too much fruit.

Cherries are my hands-down favorite fruit! I love almost everything about them. The thing that is keeping them from being absolutely perfect? Those pesky cherry pits! Tart Cherry Smoothie Bowls. Blend up your cherries into these Smoothie Bowls for a light summertime breakfast. The oldest blossoming cherry tree is in Jindai Sakura, Japan. It is estimated to be between 1,800 and 2,000 years old.
