In the first segment this week, Senior Editor Nic de Sena chats with Arthur Coldwells about KTM’s latest Super Duke 1290 GT. That’s the sport-touring version of the Super Duke R. The question is whether KTM overly detuned its fierce superbike, or whether even in touring mode, the heart of The Beast is still just as savage.

Given that you’re effectively getting two cameras in one, there are separate specs for the 4K and 360 lens configurations. Top row: No filter, though enhanced by Insta360's PureShot AI which is designed to reduce noise. Bottom row: The same images, but with Insta360's Face Filter automatically applied. You can turn off the watermark in the app's settings. Credit: Amanda Yeo / Mashable LivestreamingIt's a very smooth, consistent, and well-executed effect that made me look like a K-pop star, but anyone who actually knows me in real life would immediately recognize that this is not what I really look like. I would have liked the option for a gentler effect, just to take the edge off a bad skin day. Much like the processing style that can make your footage look more alive, at the cost of texture shimmering and aliasing that may need to be fixed in post, HDR is a tool that puts the onus of responsibility on you. The Insta360 ONE RS's compact, portable size and modular versatility provide a lot of freedom to experiment and determine how you most like to shoot. It's a great, low-risk option if you're new to 360 video and want to try it out, but aren't quite ready to buy a camera strictly dedicated to it. Though there are a plethora of new video-centric modes on the ONE RS, the six-axis gyroscope FlowState Stabilization remains the most important. Like GoPro’s HyperSmooth, this in-camera algorithm creates a super-smooth ‘gimbal-like’ stabilization with no editing required. It works on 4K 60fps video captured with the 4K Boost Lens.

The unique cross-compatibility of these two cameras means the benefits of ONE RS are available to everyone, whether purchasing a brand new camera, or upgrading parts of their current setup. You shouldn’t use HDR all the time, though. It’s limited to 30fps at 4K resolution and in lots of situations HDR video looks too much like the HDR photos from much earlier generations of phones, with less realistic-looking mid-tones and a hit to color fidelity. It also highlights the purple fringing that is a regular issue with the camera, where three branches against the sky have a violet aura to them. Like other Insta360 ONE cameras the RS Twin Edition comes with FlowState stabilization, Insta360 has mastered stabilization these last years and FlowState stabilization keeps your footage very smooth while filming. Of course, the resolution boost won't mean much unless you have the hardware to actually view 8K media. But as always, the option to future-proof your footage is always appreciated, and the extra pixels open up more options for editing without noticeably compromising image clarity. Last time I tested a 360-degree cam, I did the editing in Final Cut Pro, but this time I opted to try Insta360 Studio, the company’s own editing app. This is free, but you do need to enter the serial number of your camera to activate it.

Design Differences

The One RS with the 4K Boost mod can be used as a high quality webcam, this option is not available on the X3 however it may be coming in a future update. Insta360 One RS vs Insta360 X3: Summary A lot of the magic of Insta360’s cameras lies not in the hardware, but in the company’s smartphone app, which lets you edit your footage in a number of very creative ways.

The 6k footage looks amazing, but there are limitations of only being edited on desktop and there’s no ability currently to step down the footage if you want to edit on a mobile or tablet device - or if you used the wrong mode in a test. As I did. The dimensions of the Insta360 are: 70 x 49 x 32 mm (2.7 x 1.9 x 1.2 inch) with the Boost lens, 70 x 49 x 43 mm (2.7 x 1.9 x 1.7 inch) with the 360º lens, and 79 x 56 x 47 mm (2.7 x 2.2 x 1.8 inch) with the Wide angle lens . Its weight is 125g to 163g depending on the lens (4.4 ounces to 5.7 ounces). Technical Specifications

The 4k ‘boost’ module also brings into play a new 6k cinematic video mode. In the interest of full transparency, the review unit and firmware I’ve been testing are very good, but pre-release versions. For stabilization, it uses FlowState stabilization which supports up to 5.7K to keep the video smooth. Is the Insta360 ONE RS a novelty or a serious filmmaking device? Unique in the market, the ONE RS is designed to appeal to anyone who would normally consider a GoPro yet yearns to at least have a go at 360º. However, the Insta360 One RS does exhibit some issues you just don't see in a GoPro. These include aliasing, particularly cast off small highlight areas like reflections on cars. You will also see shimmering in tight patterned areas, like the roof tiles of buildings and gravel. We don’t see any of this shimmering or aliasing in the GoPro video.

But before we talk about its features, what comes in the box of the Insta360 ONE RS Twin Edition? Inside the box, we can find: The last attempt had HDR, but the ONE RS adds Active HDR, which is uniquely designed for capturing sports and fast action outdoors (though not in low light conditions). This video mode retains details in highlights and shadows and boosts colour, but also adds some FlowState Stabilization. It’s also annoying that this is the only method of charging the battery, especially given the modular nature of the beast – a USB clip or caddy to charge the batteries off-camera would be useful.

A combo of 4K and 360º, the vlogger-friendly Insta360 ONE R action camera is impressively small and impressively made

Video modes: Standard Video, Slow Motion, Active HDR, Timelapse, TimeShift, Loop Recording, 6K Widescreen
