About Robert Reeves: Robert Reeves first photographed the Moon in 1959, just as our space program was setting its sights on lunar exploration. Amateur astronomers refer to Moon filters as “sunglasses for the Moon” because they provide a more comfortable view and reduce eye fatigue.

From this, we can adjust the position of the test optic and the reference sphere to obtain a perfectly calibrated system. The supplied eyepiece lenses are adequate, but I prefer to use the high quality lenses from my other telescope.

You can use the Celestron FirstScope for starting on a fascinating journey across the night sky with your family. Celestron Solar Safe filter technology is GUARANTEED SAFE for direct solar observation and has been independently tested by SAI Global Assurance Services.

When not in use, the FirstScope Signature Series: Moon by Robert Reeves will be a stylish decorative fixture on your bookshelf or desk. This makes it a good choice for younger astronomers, but teens or adults will get more from a bigger scope, such as the Zhumell Z100 or the Sky-Watcher Heritage 130. We’ve also created as series of helpful guides, such as our list of cool facts about astronomy (which any kids or beginners will no doubt find interesting), our guide to astronomy for beginners, and our article on astronomy for kids. Celestron PowerTank Glow 5000 – a red flashlight is also essential if you’re using star charts and books as it will protect your night vision.Better suited as a beginner telescope, this Newtonian reflector is a worthwhile low-budget purchase for children — especially if you suspect that astronomy is likely to be a passing phase or basic but fair views of the moon, planets and stars are suitable before investing in an upgrade.

For example, SVBONY produce a range of inexpensive, wide-angle eyepieces, and while they’re probably the cheapest you’ll find anywhere, the quality is still better than the ones supplied with the FirstScope. I think the funniest thing was when the 4mm Ramsden eyepiece became stuck in the focuser due to the slippy low profile volcano top. FirstScope is very easy to observe with, the user simply navigates the night sky by moving the tube in the direction of their desired object.Celestron Omni 2x Barlow Lens – a 2x Barlow will double the magnification of any eyepiece you attach to it. So we had a sad little boy Christmas morning for a while until we'd manage to convince him that Mummy and Daddy would "sort it" for him. Many scopes now also come with a smartphone adapter, which allows you to capture images of the Moon and other bright objects. Now, Celestron is using that same technology to allow star gazers to connect to the night sky and enhance their experience of the cosmos in fun and unique ways. This quality Dobsonian style telescope features a spherical glass mirror with a generous 76mm of aperture.

Having everything together in one easily-identifiable carry bag will make it even quicker to grab your telescope and get outside to see the latest comet, bright, shining planet, or lunar eclipse! We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.

Moon filters enhance lunar viewing by cutting down on the Moon’s bright glare, improving contrast and making faint details easier to observe. This quality Dobsonian style telescope features a 76 mm aperture reflector optical tube and is an ideal entry level astronomical telescope. The Celestron FirstScope 76 has a stable Dobsonian table top mount with clutches on both axes, allowing easy and very accurate pointing of the telescope. In 1609, the Italian scientist Galileo Galilei first turned a telescope to the night sky and opened the door to exploring the wonders of the heavens. With Newtonian designs, the two mirrors within the tube should be aligned and astronomers usually achieve this process — known as collimation — using thumbscrews to adjust the optical system.
