This second point is what pushes it just to the top (bottom) of the pile when it comes to absolute trash that you shouldn’t take, just above the Basilisk. It’s a Basilisk (bad) but more so (worse). It doesn’t even have the damn heavy bolter. In Conclusion The question is: do the new weapons also fit the old models? Not really. The MkIII and MkIV kits have the left hand modelled on the left arm, whereas the upgrade sets and the new MkVI Marines have the left hand modelled on the weapons. So to make the weapons fit the old models you have to remove the hands from the left arms, which is not so easy as the MkIII and MkIV bracers often overlap the wrists.

Take your time and read every step carefully. You might also want to try leaving assembled components on or next to the set of instructions that create it. This is what I do, and I found it helped with the Contemptor. Spartan Assault Tank The new Praetor models are superb. It’s all pretty spectacular, to be honest. However, the Praetors do stand-out – two particularly large, shiny diamonds amidst a pile of smaller (but still pretty shiny) diamonds. it has a higher AV on its rear than its side, requiring a special rule to fix the issues this would cause in assaults If you get on with these three books, read The Flight of the Eisenstein by James Swallow, which is an excellent book but does rely heavily on the reader having read these three. The Liber Hereticus contains rules for all nine Traitor Legions, including Rites of War, Primarchs, Legion-specific units and wargear. If you’re of a more Loyalist bent, the Liber Astartes contains the same for the nine Loyalist Legions.

In Conclusion

As with the special weapons, the weapons are matched to the 5 distinct arm pairs/poses of the MkVI kit, but as the shoulder-mounted missile launchers come with their own set of arms, they should be compatible with any of the 5 bodies. Prefer a more baneful look than standard beakies? Outfit your MKVI Space Marines with 10 sculpted resin shoulder pads featuring the Eye of Horus, as well as a set of 11 resin heads for the Sons of Horus – nine Cthonian helmets in three different designs, plus a helmetless head and special helmet with an impressive topknot to signify a Sergeant or character. Since you have to bring the gravis lascannons in the sponsons (which are fantastic) there’s little reason not to load a twin-linked lascannon up front. You can add a pintle mounted multi-melta if you want for more killing power, but it’s really a matter of taste, and this is one of the few vehicles (thanks to Power of the Machine Spirit letting you split your fire however you like) where you can bring pretty much any weapon you choose and it’ll do something. Definitely don’t bring the hunter-killer missile though, come on now.

But where to acquire this fabulous new gear? It’ll all be available at first in the forthcoming Legiones Astartes Battle Group. This massive box contains a whopping THIRTY MK III Tactical Space Marines, one Deredeo Dreadnought, and a Land Raider Proteus for good measure. The box that you’ve been waiting for. Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness is a titanic offering. Available in English, French, and German, this box contains 54 plastic miniatures – two distinct Praetors, 40 Tactical Space Marines in Mark VI power armour, 10 Cataphractii Terminators, a Contemptor Dreadnought, and a Spartan Assault Tank. Everything except the Terminators are brand-new models. In all, though, this is a stunning book. It feels very special – and extremely official. No matter your reason for buying the Age of Darkness set, there will be something in this book you can enjoy. Warhammer: The Horus Heresy Reference Sheets Still, I didn’t appreciate having to assemble 40 shoulderpads. As, in case you weren’t aware, the studded pads all come in two halves. whilst this is done in an effort to make them clearly more rounded when formed in the factory (rather than slightly elongated attempts done previously). The average modelser may become frustrated and annoyed by these so much so their attempts to glue them may either leave a gap down the centre or end up with the part covered in glue – overall it could make them look worse. Cataphractii Terminators Well, I think. There are some serious problems evaluating this unit. Firstly, it has a special rule not in the core rulebook or the Liber Astartes/Hereticus (Independent Fire Control) and also mounts by default a “battlecannon” which isn’t in the Liber, and that can be switched out for a “Vanquisher battlecannon” which also doesn’t currently have rules.

You can even use these arms to add saw-toothed spice to other Tactical Squads and kitting out your Sergeants, Command Squads and Veteran Squads.
