Psybolts are used by the Inquisition, primarily the Ordo Malleus and the daemon-hunting Space Marines of the Grey Knights. Stalker Silenced Shells are Bolter Rounds that possess low sound signatures, intended to be used for covert combat and sniping. These rounds are best used in conjunction with an M40 Targeting System and an extended barrel on a Stalker-pattern Bolter, to produce an effective sniping weapon system.

Now, onto the fun part: the internal layout of the bolter round itself. I found some weapons were much better than I first assumed, and also confirmed in my own mind that there's definetly quite a big range of power levels amongst the guns. The variants of a particular class sometimes behave very differently, so the impression of an entire class can be colored by trying a weaker variant first. Now, there's no need to perfectly balance every weapon, especially in a PvE game, but when there's too much of a power gap you do start to get issues with variety in the higher difficulties. As with most other aspects of the bolter, we have no way of knowing what kind of magical insane powder and propellant the Imperium of Man has been able to conjure up in 38,000 years. Since we don't know what kind of powder and propellant is used, it's a bit difficult to know exactly how fast a bolter round can go. To make things simpler, I simply calculated velocity based on the 10 gauge slug shell and the Gyrojet pistol.

The restrictions on this being kept the same as for Return Fire means that this is much less useful on a vehicle (being able to only fire Defensive weapons), so you probably want to save this for a really vicious volley of infantry fire. Heavy Support Squads, Tactical Support Squads and even Tactical Squads are decent targets for this, as they are disposable enough that the Gets Hot isn’t a deal breaker and also will have enough models in a unit to make this worthwhile. You also want to use it, preferably, on units with as many models as possible and with guns with as many shots as possible. Plasma Guns in Rapid Fire range, Autocannons, and Volkite Calivers or Culverins are all good choices. That said, if your opponent makes enough of a mistake to shoot their Spartan at a 10-strong Heavy Support Unit with Lascannons, that’s definitely worthwhile.Your basic Tactical marines are now capable of glancing a Rhino to death in the front arc with Strength 5 against AV11. It’s not likely that you’ll kill a fresh Rhino, needing almost 30 shots to do it reliably, but being able to chip off that final Hull Point can make your opponent think twice about sneaky plays. Hilariously, the ever-present nemesis bolter can now penetrate a Land Raider. Sure, the chances aren’t in your favour, but the visual image of just popping the driver off through the vision slit is profoundly amusing. And if you really want to bully your opponent, consider a Xiphon. In 2022 India Knight published the novel Darling, an updating of The Pursuit of Love set in modern times featuring many of the same characters. It might technically have slightly higher DPS than the laspistol, but the laspistol can reliably blam a dozen Shooters in the face before it needs to reload, whearas the autopistol sputters out after about three, and its worse at range, and it has lower ammo efficency. The only real advantage it has is that you don't need to aim it too carefully.

After killing the thugs, head towards the marker and you'll find a dead Bolter with a spear impaled in its body. Investigate the Bolter's corpse to gather the tissue needed by the Plague Witch.

You can make these weapons work, but you're making the game harder by taking them. Still good enough for difficulty 3 but you might really notice them falling off in 4 and 5.

I take feats into account, and assume a lvl 30 character, but not blessings or specific builds building off blessings. With how random blessings are, it'd be very hard to test them all, and most of the guns in the same 'niche' get similar blessings anyway. But psybolts provide the Grey Knights with a relatively straightforward method of enhancing the power of standard pattern weaponry without resorting to the need to extensively retrofit the weapon itself. Anyway, this Recon Lasgun has stats somewhere between the Mk VId and Mk VIIa, so I think it has the same issue as the VId in that the VIIa is just better. There might be some hidden quirk that makes it better, but it can't really see anything in the stats or in gameplay to suggest so. Again, likely not a terrible gun, but why not just use the VIIa? Buff Suggestion: probably just a bit more damage to make it take 1 less shot to kill difficulty 4 and 5 Shooters from mid-range. This might make it crazy strong in difficulty 3, but I don't think it'd be outshining the Bolter or anything. Mauler Pattern Bolt Cannon - The ancient Mechanicum of the Horus Heresy era utilised a variety of Bolter weaponry which, while operating on similar principles to the standardised weapons of the Legiones Astartes, were often more sophisticated and difficult to maintain. Such weapons include the Mauler Pattern Bolt Cannon, a fearsomely-baroque and bulky automatic Bolter weapon using substantially larger and denser shells than a standard Heavy Bolter.
