But, proper alignment is crucial in ensuring optimal performance after installing your new aftermarket bandsaw fence. This involves taking adequate time and care to set up and adjust the fence accurately.

The Kreg Bandsaw Fence is well-known for its rigidity and durability. It also promises more productivity due to its many unique features. Here are a few of them: It is compatible with table saws, band saws, router tables, and jointers, making it a versatile tool for a woodworker’s workshop. Leveling Baffle for Stable Movement

Straight Talk

The kit comes with large and small fences and both have adjustable resaw bars which is all very useful. A 16mm spanner (not supplied) is needed to assemble the mounting bar to the table. The fence rides on a sliding table, which has two parts: a plywood base, and a hardwood runner that rides the angle-iron rail in front. The runner has an insert of ultra-high molecular weight (UHMW) plastic that’s slotted to fit over the angle iron and makes the runner glide easily on the rail.

Using a bandsaw fence ensures precise and accurate cuts, allowing for increased flexibility and reducing the chance of errors or deviations.Glue the insert into the groove (I used Titebond III). After the glue dries, cut a 5⁄8-in.-deep slot into the plastic that fits over the angle iron. The slot must be cut perfectly; if it’s too wide, the fence will wobble and lose accuracy. My 1⁄8-in. tablesaw blade cut a slot that was close but too tight. To creep up on the fit, I added paper shims between the runner and the tablesaw fence until the runner was riding on the rail smoothly with no play. This Woodhaven product is suited for 14″ bandsaws and fits well with 16″ work tables. Despite that, you can still mount this fence model onto other bandsaws, unlike the PowerTec and Rikon ones. That’s because the Woodhaven features multiple drilling holes in its design that allow for such adjustment. Rigid Design The aluminum fence is incredibly strong, straight, and built to last for years to come. The face and top of the fence contain T-slots for adding stops, re-saw guides, and more. Absolutely! In spite of my gripes with installation and calibration, the fence performs as well as I remember. I was slicing off consistent strips of veneer in no time and have since used it for not only veneer, but cutting small parts and busting through big resaws. The ability to accurately dial in the fence position transforms the bandsaw from a rough cutting tool into a precision powerhouse, at least in my opinion. Overall, I’m happy I made the upgrade. All things considered, PowerTec’s main disadvantage is its shelf life. Compared to its peers, this bandsaw fence doesn’t last as long. Even though it’s manufactured from industrial aluminum, the rest of it is made of cheap materials that won’t withhold heavy woodwork. So, if you don’t intend to use it as often, it’s a pretty great and affordable choice to consider. Feature Highlights Materials that the designer worked with include a table saw, screws, plywood, wood glue, drill, countersink bit, band saw, hardwood, etc. In this tutorial, there is a clear breakdown of how to go about making your saw fence. It is written in an easy-to-understand format so that anyone can use it effectively. For a home hobbyist re-sawing the best way to get reproducible results is to use a pin type fence like a router table and follow a drawn line carefully adapting for drift. Of course, use a sharp wide blade with teeth set for re-sawing and lots of tension too. Not all bandsaw fences are a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s crucial to ensure compatibility with your specific machine, or you might end up barking up the wrong tree. A fence that holds perpendicularity is important for preventing the blade from wandering or cutting at an angle, resulting in straight and square cuts. This feature becomes especially significant when cutting expensive materials or working with intricate designs. You can use it for most 14-inch bandsaws and 16-inch square tables. However, if you have 14-inch bandsaws that it is not compatible with, you may be able to make it work by drilling 4 holes according to the given instructions. Keep in mind that this will be extra work and you will need to spend time on it. If you are not up for that, you should look at the other products.

Rikon isn’t just a brand name. It also offers the ideal bandsaw fence that provides good value at a reasonable price. The Rikon 13-900 model has many features that help zero in your accuracy to make your cuts cleaner. These include a magnified cursor alongside an adjustable scale. If you want to make curved cuts on a bandsaw, you’ll need to use a different technique, such as freehand cutting or a miter gauge. Improve Your Woodworking Skills with a Bandsaw Fence

Bandsaw Fence

The bandsaw fence works only with 14-inch bandsaws. If you have smaller or larger ones, you should take a look at the other available options. You can lower the blade guides when you are working with a shorter fence. This gives you the flexibility of adjusting it depending on the work at hand. A fence positioned at the extreme right hand side of the table isn't rigid enough to be relied on. It doesn't take much force to deflect it because the fixing points for the fence bar are far away (on the left side of the table) from where force is being applied. A cure could be to clamp the far end of the fence to the table, which would be easier if the fence actually reached that far but it doesn't - the new fence is even shorter than the old one, which itself is too short to reach.
