Scrap cable can be extremely valuable if it is made from certain materials (for example: copper or aluminium), however other materials may be worth considerably less (for example: steel or brass). Will tariffs affect scrap metal prices? Unfortunately, when I searched for something like those beds, handmade here in the UK, what arrived was upsettingly far away from what I imagined, and I was highly disappointed. And, so our story begins… Stephen and I started our company with a simple ethos: handmade iron beds built to last a lifetime, just like those I remembered and had always hoped to share. Yes. It is actually one of the most malleable metals that can be used in the welding process. It can be welded to other metals to produce a strong and sturdy joint. As members of The Guild Of Master Craftsmen, all of this is made possible by our expert craftsmen and craftswomen’s skill. From our workshop on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, our artisans offer the highest quality work across our full range of metal beds, so you can rest easy knowing that your new handmade sleep retreat has been carefully crafted for you right here in the UK.

Brass is the combination of copper and zinc. As a material, the best advantages of brass lies in its strength, resistance to corrosion and formability. This makes it a raw material favoured for long lasting hand made products even though it is expensive. It is also possible to melt down to recycle and reuse. For an unlacquered brass bed frame Brasso or any other metal polishing compound is the best way to remove tarnish and restore the shine to a brass bed. If there is a lot of tarnish then it can take a long time to get a sheen to your bed. Juno Cotton - This mattress is deeper than the Juno Original and more responsive. The top comfort layers are made of cotton and wool which are really good for comfort, temperature regulation, fire resistance and resiliance. Traditional designs directly inspire our handmade wrought iron beds and Victorian-style brass beds to capture that antique aesthetic and pay homage to the past. But we also hope to play a part in future generations’ stories, so many of our bed frames delicately incorporate contemporary styles, colours, and materials.Juno Wool - This mattress is very similar in design to the Juno Cotton but we've replaced the man-made fibres with all natural cotton and wool fillings. Sizes and Configurations: Antique brass beds come in various sizes, including single, double, queen, or king, to accommodate different mattress sizes and room dimensions. They often have side rails or support systems to hold the mattress and may include slats or a spring base. The Original Bed Co is proud of its skills that have been developed through generations of expertise to hand craft pure brass beds. Unlike other brass bed frames, the headboards and footboards of our hand made brass bed frames are made of pure brass tubes and pure brass castings.

As you are probably aware, scrap metal prices are changing continually. These prices are ultimately set by supply and demand at a local level. If you live in a region where businesses are readily accepting scrap metal, then it is likely that prices will remain high all year round. Conversely if this is not the case, then prices may fluctuate continually. It is important to note that the prices can vary considerably from one city to another. As a result of these continual price variations, it is notoriously difficult to understand what is a good price and what is not. Antique brass beds are sought after by collectors, vintage enthusiasts, and those who appreciate the classic elegance and historical value of these pieces. They can serve as focal points in bedrooms, adding a touch of nostalgia and a connection to bygone eras. Whether used in period homes or as statement pieces in contemporary interiors, antique brass beds exude a sense of luxury, craftsmanship, and enduring beauty. This is a very difficult question to answer, simply because there are so many variations of scrap metal gradings within each type of metal. Copper for example has three sub-divisions (grades 1, 2 and 3), aluminium has two main groupings and some other metals have many more. As you can see, there are a significant amount of gradings and so defining what grade you have on any one piece of metal can be challenging. While it may be time consuming work, it is definitely worth it. If you take your metal to your local scrap yard and tell them exactly what weight of scrap you have, split out by grading, you will come across as knowledgeable and therefore should receive a much better final price. How much is a water heater worth for scrap? In this modern day it is rare to find beds made of pure brass. Even if you search for them. Most brass bed manufacturers, who used to make solid brass bed frames, have moved to designs using electroplated brass tubes rather than pure brass all the way through. A bed company making traditional brass beds is truly unique. For me, it’s a childhood memory of the great iron beds at my grandparent’s, with mattresses that seemed as tall as Everest. I wanted to pass on those happy memories to my children with the same quality craftsmanship that’s built to last a lifetime.

If you cannot find the bed to tell your unique story or have an oddly shaped room or a challenging ceiling pitch, we also offer a fully bespoke iron bed service that will adapt our beds to suit your individual needs. Fortunately in the UK we use the metric system to weigh up scrap metal. Consequently it is very easy to work out how much you will get for either of these units. Simply put: There are many types of metals which are traded frequently in the scrap metal industry, some of the most popular forms are; copper, aluminium and steel. Once you know what metal you have, you need to figure out how much it weighs, in the UK the scrap metal industry utilises the metric system (kilos and tonnes). Following this, you need to identify what grade of metal you have, there are many variations for each type of metal and so you will need to spend some time researching this. Finally, as discussed in many of the above sections, it is important to recognise that scrap metal prices vary substantially based upon location. How to work out scrap metal prices per tonne? It is extremely likely that scrap metal prices will increase throughout 2019, there are various factors which will impact this in the UK, as outlined below. Firstly, inflation will push the prices up by a marginal amount, this is virtually guaranteed every year. Secondly, the pound is performing poorly against foreign currencies currently and so scrap metal prices will likely see an uplift in cost, in line with the price of importing metals abroad. Furthermore, we’ve seen prices increasing steadily over the past five or so years and so it is not far-fetched to estimate that this will continue. Obviously prices do indeed vary between each type of metal, but generally they are all trending upwards. What types of scrap metal gradings are there?

Old water heaters are commonly made using copper and so they can be worth a lot of money to scrap yards in the UK. More modern water heaters are made using cheaper materials and so they are not worth quite as much money. Once you have determined what material the water heater is made from, you should then weigh it and use the pricing estimations per kilo from our scrap metal pricing table. How much is scrap cable worth? Ornate Design: Many antique brass beds feature ornate designs and intricate detailing. The headboard and footboard may exhibit elaborate scrollwork, floral motifs, or other decorative elements, showcasing the craftsmanship and artistic flair of the era in which the bed was made. Avoid using any soaps but if there is a stubborn stain then a damp towel with lightly soaped water is the recommended solution. It is important to clean a brass bedstead regularly as even oils and sweat can start removing the lacquer which will then start corroding your bed. How to polish antique brass bed frames?Patina and Finish: Over time, brass develops a natural patina, which adds character and uniqueness to antique brass beds. Some collectors prefer the aged patina, while others may choose to restore the brass to its original shine through polishing or cleaning. If you live in the UK, you are unlikely to be impacted by any tariffs that are currently being talked about in the media. These will typically impact people who are trading with the United States and so they are largely not relevant to us over here. This is due to the United Kingdom only exporting very small quantities of our scrap metal to the US. What are the best things to scrap for money? Juno Original - Our most budget friendly option, which we set about to design to be as affordable as possible without compromising on comfort and it delivers a lot of comfort for the price. Restoration and Customization: Given the age of antique brass beds, they may require restoration or repairs to ensure structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. Restoration processes may involve cleaning, polishing, repairing or replacing parts, and even customizing the bed to suit personal preferences or to match existing décor.

Our range suits a variety of bedroom styles. From classic romantic French to elegant and curvy antique Victorian to country cottages or even old Victorian city builds. We also have some frames which have a more contemporary minimalistic style, ideal for modern homes. Why are pure brass beds better than brass plated beds? And it’s not just our beds that are handmade in Britain: all of our online mattresses and bed bases are produced right here too, and everything we offer comes with a manufacturer’s guarantee. Lacquer protects your bed frame from corroding over time, hence it is important to clean a lacquered brass bed with agents which won't strip away the lacquer. We recommend cleaning your brass bed with a dry towel regularly. If you know what price you are going to receive for a kilo of your scrap metal, then you simply need to multiply this figure by 1000 to find out what a tonne gets you. Please take a look at the below example to see this in action: Versatile Style: Antique brass beds can complement a variety of interior design styles, ranging from traditional and vintage to eclectic and contemporary. Their timeless appeal and versatility make them suitable for both antique-themed spaces and modern settings. We're extra careful with our brass frames as they are heavier than most of our other beds. You can be fully assured that your bed will arrive in the same fantastic condition it leaves our store, no matter where you are in the UK. What brass bed sizes are available? Brass Construction: Antique brass beds are predominantly constructed using brass, a metal known for its durability and resistance to corrosion. The brass components form the frame, including the headboard, footboard, side rails, and often decorative elements.
