Description

All Altra shoes are Zero Drop, which together with the broad rounded toe box allows your feet to function improve your posture. If you are used to running in shoes that have an elevated heel and a more pointed toe box then it is advisable to transition into Altra. This is because your feet and lower legs won’t be as strong as the rest of your body as they will have been restricted by your shoes. It is a good idea to gradually increase the time you spend in your Altra running shoes and alternate them with your previous shoes. What tends to happen is that your feet start to spread on impact and you become more aware of the stiffness and elevated heel in your previous shoes. So you naturally increase the time you spend running in your Altra’s. Brooks Ghost 13: If you prefer a shoe with a 12mm heel then the Brooks Ghost has a soft cushioned ride. They are also available in several widths: The tread is made with a firm rubber that provides good traction and is showing no signs of wear after almost 70 miles on the road. This is a max cushion neutral shoe, which is Altra’s most cushioned road shoe. The Altra Duo was a big super crazy cushioned shoe and very comfortable. It looked like a true big boy over there on our wall. Now that shoe is out of the lineup; the Torin is now the biggest max cushion shoe you can get from Altra. this is going to be your friend for all your long kind of stuff. What I liked in the Update

Shoe Review: Altra Torin 5 | Fleet Feet Shoe Review: Altra Torin 5 | Fleet Feet

Alright, I have to be honest. I have a soft spot for a little extra cushion in my running shoes. Don´t get me wrong, I love my slimmed down, 7oz, no-nonsense racing flats, but when it comes to pounding the pavement to get my daily miles in, I really enjoy the cushion. The Torin 5 strikes a nice balance between soft and responsive in their Altra EGO MAX sole. Honestly, my biggest frustration is why in the world would Altra remove the second eyelet which was present in the previous model? Who’s decision was this?! There was a small amount of heel slip which would have been nonexistent. The Torin 5 has a great look about it. The Torin has great lines and cool contours on the heel box. With four colors to choose from, the Torin will fit most runners' styles. The Torin 4.5 Plush retains Altra's signature zero mm heel to toe drop, and their wide toe box. Upgrades from the Torin Plush 4 include losing an ounce in weight thanks to a new knit upper, whilst remaining soft and comfortable. We loved the updated heel collar and tongue cushioning and the super lightweight, breathable mesh upper. Not to mention the fun colorways. All that to say, for all intents and purposes, the Altra Torin 4.5 Plush is now just the default Altra Torin, with a soft engineered knit upper. Whatever it took to get here, I’m cool with, because this turned out to be an excellent, lightweight, super comfortable zero-drop shoe.

In addition to protective padding, the updated mesh knit is tight enough to keep uncomfortable dirt and debris out, while still allowing airflow for ventilation. The wide toe box is noticeable from the first time you slip your feet into the shoes. Altra says its FootShape design lets your toes stay in a natural position, as if you weren’t wearing shoes at all. When your big toe is allowed to remain straight, it creates a more powerful toe-off, Altra says. The FootPod outsole allows the shoe to bend and flex in the same way that the foot bends and flexes with each stride. Altra shaved a full ounce off the men’s model and a little over one ounce from the women’s. The change dropped the women’s shoe to 7.4 oz and the men’s to 9.1 oz—placing the new version comfortably in that sub-10 oz category. The result is an even lighter ride than before while maintaining the same soft feel. As with any shoe with a mesh upper, the Torin 4.0 isn’t going to keep your feet dry in the rain or while running through a puddle.

Light, fast, good ground feel. There’s not much more that I would want in a shoe! In a perfect world. I’d love to see Altra trim a bit more of cushioning off of this shoe as I’m a fan of fairly minimal amounts of cushioning, but I really can’t complain about this shoe overall. The Torin 4.5 Plush is a cushioned, zero drop road running shoe designed for everyday use. It is for neutral runners looking for a lightweight but plushly cushioned, responsive ride. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Altra Torin or looking to shake up your running routine with a zero-drop shoe, the Altra Torin 5 is perfect for any body in motion.Thomas did an interview with Brian (altra cofounder) which you can find on the bitr youtube channel. He said (around 31:30 minute mark) that there will be a shoe that fills the torin regular gap of the 25-26mm midsole that has a big update. That should be coming in spring 21. While I like the aesthetics of the new design, what really matters to me about any pair of shoes is how it feels on my feet. Altra designers pulled from the Torin 4.5 Plush construction and beefed up the padding in the Torin 5. Additional cushioning around the heel collar and tongue create a protected feel that doesn’t feel overbearing and makes the Torin 5 a great road-to-trail transition shoe. The Quantic midsole is cushy and springy, giving the shoe soft landings and a bouncy ride, and it’s consistently cushioned from heel to toe. The knit upper is comfortable and pliable to give the shoe more flexibility.

Altra Torin 4.5 Plush Review | Cushioned Zero Drop Road

The Altra Torin 4.0 is the shoe for runners that want one pair of shoes that can do it all on the roads. Chaque mois des milliers de runners nous font confiance pour trouver les chaussures de running parfaites ! Yes, we’re so vain, we probably think this review is about us and our style preferences. But it’s not, so let’s get onto the shoe.Enfin, Natural Ride System (NRS) promet de favoriser une foulée efficace en épousant la morphologie des métatarsiens et en aidant la biomécanique du pied. My arches are mostly flat and I like to have a little shape and support underneath them on the run. The Torin has just the right form to support my feet comfortably,” she says. Since this is a .5 update, the midsole and outsole are the same. In this case, that’s not a bad thing. With the Torin 4 Plush, I liked the Quantic midsole. It’s super cushioned and rebounds well. The outsole (which Altra calls Footpod Technology), is covered in full-blown rubber to grip any surface and mapped to the bones and tendons in the foot to help with flex and natural movements. Altra achieved that soft feel with its Quantic midsole. The foam midsole is squishy beneath your feet, and it delivers a consistent softness from heel to toe, which makes transitions smooth and easy. Fleet Feet testers love the wide toe box because it’s comfortable for a lot of different foot shapes.
