Wait at least 30 minutes between last alcohol intake and use, as described the sensor is sensitive and can be damaged by too high an alcohol concentration.

I would have preferred the readout to show the exact figure in the screen rather than the all encompassing LO BUT I believe that if any alcohol is detected it reads out the figures then to give us a clue how far over we are. AlcoSense Lite may be our entry level product but the design certainly doesn't cut any corners. It may not have all of the technology of the Elite but for the occasional user looking for an indication of their level of intoxication the AlcoSense Lite will more than fit the bill.

I have updated this review after now having used the AlcoSense for a while now, and after having received the most helpful clarifications from the AlcoSense Laboratory. My previous “Cons” (“Zero Reading” and see below for explanation) was unfounded as what I perceived as a limitation was in fact a result of complying with BS-EN16280 which has now also been taken as a European wide standard. In December 2013 Road Safety Analysis Ltd, a not-for-profit road safety research company, performed a head to head test of 7 consumer breathalysers vs a Police issue Lion Breathalyser. The test had two elements, one to test the devices head to head in a ‘street’ real world environment and the second part to test the devices head to head in laboratory conditions using Police grade alcohol simulators. The AlcoSense Lite and Elite were both tested and came out highly recommended, the Elite winning hands down over the competition – even against breathalysers twice the price! The Pro was accurate on the ‘time before sober’ calculation, unlike the online calculator he tested it against. You can set the Elite 3 to alert you when you are close to or over any Irish or UK limit including 0.20‰BAC (Irish Limit for professional and novice drivers), 0.50‰BAC (Irish and Scottish limit) and 0.8‰BAC (rest of the UK and Channel Islands).
