In a series of 100 short and accessible essays, zoologist and science communicator Joanna Bagniewska introduces us to some of the strangest and most compelling creatures in the natural world. From jellyfish capable of reversing the ageing process to tarantulas that keep frogs as pets, by way of blood-spurting lizards and booby siblicide, it’s an illuminating compendium of some weird and wonderful creatures. A wonderfully told story following 4 generations of Welsh women, with complex characters, complicated relationships and a glorious and beautiful ending. Jones's trademark warmth and humour suffuse the novel with comedy and pathos, making for a heart-warming, entertaining and, at times, deeply moving story' The Observer Another classic from Ruth Jones. She has this ability to make you believe you are living the life of all the characters. The good and the bad. The flawed the messed up parts alongside the highs. Taking some time to get into ending up my favourite of the three I have read by the end. The sad beautiful tragic ending.

The end of this story is incredibly moving and brought me to tears (and I have never cried over a book before). Ruth Jones draws you in and tugs on the heartstrings in a beautiful way Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is shot through with Ruth Jones's warmth and wisdom. A big warm blanket of a book. I loved it * Jojo Moyes * The show was broadcast between 2012 and 2017 and Ruth played a leading role. The very successful series had guest appearances from the likes of Tim Rhys-Jones, Craig Bellamy, and James Corden. And to do that she must find her daughter, Alys - the only person who can help to put things right. To heal the rifts she must first locate her daughter Alys. which will risk betraying granddaughter Elin. Elin is far less forgiving of the past rifts and may not be as ready as others. For Grace time is running out to solve the family rifts that have been going on for the last thirty years.

All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate.

What a wonderful, heart-warming, beautifully emotional story by Ruth Jones of 4 generations, trying to navigate their own lives and their relationships with others and each other. Ruth Jones writes with such warmth you can’t help but fall in love with the characters she creates. It’s always grounded, always real, always comforting, always ultimately full of love’ JAMES CORDEN Ruth Jones’ novel “Us Three” is a beautiful novel that is an exploration of the glue that keeps women together in lifelong friendships. Catrin, Judith, and Lana make their home in a small town in Wales and could not be better friends. i really savoured this one, the four generations of women had such a special story. such well developed characters. This is a wonderful story about the relationships between different generations of women within the same family. The conflicts and emotions are real and raw and you’ll find yourself relating to so many arguments and points of tension.

History Makers: Female Writers Dominate the 2023 William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award Shortlist

Ruth Jones is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing, most notably BBC One's Gavin and Stacey, which she co-wrote with James Corden and in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins. The 2019 Christmas Day special of Gavin and Stacey gained national critical acclaim, drawing an audience of over 18 million, winning a BAFTA for TV moment of the year and a National Television Award for Impact. Ruth also created and co-wrote Sky One's Stella, which ran for six series. Ruth has starred in several other television comedies and dramas. And when she finds her – if she does – she risks betraying granddaughter Elin. Who is far less forgiving of the past, with its hurts and secrets and lies. Meanwhile Grace’s great-grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own. She would then get into theatre and in 1999 made her debut on the silver screen as she made an appearance in “Fat Friends,” the popular ITV series. It was while she was working there that she met James Corden, her future comedy partner. I must be very careful about spoilers in this delicious novel revolving around this family so full of resentment, long-held anger, prodigal daughters, and cold-water swimming. When I started the book, I wasn’t that sure about the characters as Grace is easy to understand and love, however, the same can’t be said for her granddaughter, beautifully portrayed as a Head Teacher, following in her grandfather’s footsteps, whereas her daughter hates school and the tension between the two is palpable. Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is shot through with Ruth Jones's warmth and wisdom. A big warm blanket of a book. I loved it - Jojo MoyesI really enjoyed Love Untold one of our family book club books. I would not have read it out of choice but was very pleased I did. The talented Welsh performer would then decide to get into costume drama in 2008 as she worked on “Litle Dorrit and “Tess of The D’Urbervilles. Ruth Jones: Not too much; like I mentioned, New Quay is a physical place that was quite an inspiration, and when I was writing about Dylan’s Quay, I would imagine that place quite a lot in my head. There’s little things that happen in the book that I’ve drawn from – there’s a particular story I’d taken from Justin Davies who played my son in Stella. Sometimes you collect things like a magpie and you think “Ooh, I’ll keep that!” Gavin and Stacey” is Ruth Jones’ most popular work that introduces Stacey and Gavin. Stacey happens to be your everyday girl from South Wales while Gavin is your everyday boy from Essex.

This is such a wonderfully Welsh read. Not sure I've read a book where the town I live in gets a mention or 2! There’s a lot of warmth and comfort that comes with reading your work. Maybe I’m being biased because I’m Welsh… Thank you to NetGalley, Random House and the author Ruth Jones for the opportunity to review this wonderful book. It's a great read, refreshingly free of stereotypes, as we follow events in the lives of the four women in the run-up to Grace's ninetieth birthday. I loved the characters of Grace and Beca in particular. I did guess the Cissie reveal in advance, though.Elin, Becca’s mother is a headteacher, organised and knows what is best for everyone; her husband, her daughter and even her grandmother. But does she know what is best for herself? This book looks at multi generation female relationships and familial ties as well as what bonds and binds mothers and daughters. Told from different points of view, this book is measured as it builds on all the past and present frustrations that all the characters have. It shows how complicated and complex any relationship can be, but also how wonderful and uplifting even in the darkest moments that the maternal bond gives you. After she was cast in Saxondale as Steve Coogan’s wife, she teamed up with James and together they wrote and starred in Gavin and Stacey the Bafta Award-winning work. Rob Brydon her old friend for years who also worked as a comedian starred in the work. Grace is about to turn ninety. She doesn’t want parties or presents or fuss. She just wants to heal the family rift that’s been breaking her heart for decades. This is a story about mothers and daughters: the love inherent in that bond and the heartache that miscommunication can bring. More than anything, it's about the importance of being true to oneself. Meet Grace, Alys, Elin and Beca - a family you'll come to know, and to love.
