Are we done? We are not. Lokhust and Skorpekh Destroyers both have a Lord that can join them, and surprisingly/depressingly (give the Skorph has also been on Wings’ shelf all of 9th) the Lokhust is the more serious contender here. They’re reasonably tough, bring a Resurrection Orb to the party, and provide their unit with Critical Hits on a 5+, which is ultra-great on Lethal Hitting gauss cannons now they’ve been demoted to S5. They are also an important carrier for Enhancements to make that unit really sing, especially the Veil of Darkness. Looking surprisingly like a staple, so pro-tip from me (Wings) – you can trivially convert one with a Lokhust and parts from the Lychguard/Triarch kit. You’ll be seeing mine in Tacoma. If a unit from your army starts your Movement phase embarked within a TRANSPORT model, that unit can disembark in that phase. Unless you’re up against Tau or Chaos Space Marines, who are upsettingly capable of just lifting the unit, it’s very, very common for such a unit to end the game at or near its full starting strength as opponents simply give up trying to clear it out. It’s also reasonably deadly, in a grindy sort of way – the Lychguard don’t do explosive damage, but because they’re so durable they’ll tend to gradually win a fight they get involved with. Protocol of the Hungry Void is also very good with them – it pushes their strength to the key break point of 7, at which point they’re wounding most things on 5s at worst, ensuring that even Knights will eventually fall to their blades. The price tag on all this is pretty steep, and after the Q3 2023 Dataslate you’re looking at over 400pts for the full setup,

As of the Dataslate, these are less definitively the “best” options, and you can certainly play around with any of the following as either replacements or supplements: We’re not going to cover off absolutely all of these, but we’ll hit the points that matter. First up, in the drop downs below you can see lists of stratagems that are: Enough CHARACTERs dotted around to spread the effect. Here, being able to take two Crypteks in a single HQ slot helps, as does the option of the Hexmark Destroyer, a cheap non-HQ character who can drop in wherever needed. Welcome to the first in a series of Faction Focus articles for 10th Edition. 10th has now been in the wild for long enough that people have really started to get to grips with what each faction can do, and starting today we’re going to be publishing articles exploring each one in turn. This Edition, we’re planning to be much more modular about how we handle our enduring competitive content for the game’s various factions, aiming to make it easier to maintain, and this is the first step down that road.

What Are the Must-Have Units to Start This Faction?

You then reduce the number of dice in that pool by a number equal to the Wounds characteristic of the Reanimated model and repeat this process until either there are no more reassembling models, or the number of dice remaining in the pool is less than the Wounds characteristic of any of the reassembling models. Any models that did not Reanimate fail to reassemble, and any dice remaining in the pool are discarded.

These guys come with an innate -1 to hit, they slap like the Skorpekh Destroyers, and they can deepstrike for free. What’s not to love? Plus, with a 10″ movement, they’ll be able to apply a decent amount of pressure by covering serious ground before making a charge roll. Psychomancer

Collecting Your Army

In addition, if all units from your army are from the same dynasty (excluding DYNASTIC AGENT, C’TAN SHARD and UNALIGNED units), select one command protocol that has not been assigned to a battle round (there will typically only be one). That command protocol is active in every battle round in addition to the one assigned to that battle round – select which directive your units will benefit from at the start of each battle round. Note that if this additional command protocol is the one described in your dynasty’s code, this means both of its directives apply to all units with this ability in your army in every battle round, in addition to the protocol assigned to that battle round. The available command protocols are shown below. Next up, shooting. This is an area where the Q3 2023 Dataslate hit the best Necron options quite a bit, so there’s a few ways you can go with this. Lokhust Heavy Destroyers and Doomsday Arks are your top quality choices, but you definitely pay for them. Doomsdays are just all-round good and durable, but hard to hide, a little swingy and run you 210pts each. Lokhust Heavies, on the other hand, are extremely good at killing whichever target you build them for, and fairly easy to hide, but way, way more fragile than you’d normally expect from a 150pts “heavy shooting” unit. You generally need something that can kill enemy tanks, so either three Gauss Lokhusts or a Doomsday is a fine place to start here, which you can either supplement with the choices below, or a second unit of the same (with the option on Enmitic Lokhusts on a second unit). You only get one shot but at S10 -4AP and 3D3 damage, it hits almost like a Castellan volcano lance. If you want to go for screen-killing, you can also throw on the enmitic exterminator for 3d3 S7 -1 AP shots. Just taking a complete shot in the dark on this one…but we feel like the gauss destructor is going to be wildly more popular. If you do take a squad of 2-3, it also says that any number can take whichever weapon (they can be mixed). Hexmark Destroyer I’ve definitely already noticed this impacting my list-building choices, and it’ll also have a big impact on positioning during games, as there’s going to be a real trade-off in some turns between staying in range for protocols or going out hunting. Once you have selected an eligible unit to declare a charge, you must select one or more enemy units within 12" of it as the targets of that charge. The targets of a charge do not need to be visible to the charging unit.

Chronomancer ( Orikan the Diviner) • Plasmancer • Psychomancer • Technomancer ( Illuminor Szeras) • Apprentek Overall, with a random D6 shot output and only hitting on a 4+, you’ll most definitely want to bring more than one of these to get the most value out of your points. Definitely a sweet model though. Lokhust Heavy Destroyer The first thing to bear in mind with this ‘building’ is that it comprises three constituent Starsteles (part pylon, part waystone, all awesome), which can be set up to cover quite a large area of the battlefield. As long as you meet the first two conditions, then before the game you prepare command protocols. There is a list of six of these, each with two effects, and after deployment but before the first turn roll-off you choose five of these and assign one to each of the five battle rounds of the game.
