Serve over rice with a side of mixed green vegetables. See my posts on how to cook rice in the microwave or how to cook rice in the oven, for easy ways to cook the perfect rice every time. I t's truly easy to make. You basically just put all of the ingredients in a casserole dish and then pop it in the oven. You barely have to do any work! This recipe was first published in March 2017. Updated June 2022 with some new photos, video and some housekeeping. Pork and Cider Casserole is the ultimate comfort food. Delicious melt-in-the-mouth pork in a tangy cider sauce. Perfect for autumn evenings. make a slurry of 1 to 2 teaspoons of cornflour (cornstarch) with 3 tablespoons of water. Drizzle the cornstarch into the hot casserole and stir until the gravy is the desired consistency. You may not need to use all the slurry. Let the casserole continue cooking for another minute or two to make sure the cornflour is completely cooked.

Next, heat the oil in a pan (use oil spray if you’re following Slimming World, or trying to lower fat). Every part is delicious. The pork chops are layered in a creamy seasoned base with rice throughout, then they're topped off with melty shredded mozzarella cheese and French fried onions for a little crunch. There are some meals that I go through phases with. I’ll eat them loads for a while (especially if I’m working on a recipe). Then, they’ll get forgotten until I’m searching my blog for something different to add to our meal plans. Heat the oven to 170 C, 150 C fan, 325 F, gas 3. Heat half the butter in the casserole dish, add half the pork, season and fry for about 10 minutes until thoroughly browned. Remove the meat from the casserole with a slotted spoon and reserve. Add the rest of the butter to the casserole and fry the rest of the pork for 10 minutes until evenly browned.

Stretch your casserole to feed more people and add a tin of beans (we like baked beans stirred through a pork or sausage casserole….) To use, allow to defrost overnight in the refrigerator, then reheat either in the microwave or in a saucepan on the stove. Tender chunks of juicy pork shoulder, slow-cooked in a delicious honey and mustard-flavoured sauce, make this slow-cooker pork casserole taste out-of-this-world amazing! I don’t sear the pork before adding it to the slow cooker; I prefer to add everything raw where possible. Cream rather than crème fraîche (sometimes crème fraîchecan split, so I prefer to use cream - make sure it's double/heavy cream though - the higher the fat content, the less likely it is to split.) Crispy bacon lardons - Often these are crisped up, then cooked in the casserole with the pork, but I prefer to sprinkle them on at the end so they retain all the crispy saltiness. Step 6. Take out of the oven and bring to a low simmer on the stove. Stir in the cream and cornflour slurry, heating it through for 3-4 minutes. Taste and season with salt and pepper, as needed.
