Photographers can get excited about the number of megapixels a camera has. A megapixel is 1 million pixels. A pixel is a small square, like a piece of tile, that when fit together with other pixels creates a photograph. The density of these pixels determines the resolution of your picture. The denser the megapixels, the higher the resolution — making your photos sharp and crisp and the colors vibrant. With a higher resolution, you can blow the photograph up to hang on the wall or make it a screen saver without the image becoming pixelated-when scant pixels are stretched too far. The Tough Cameras reviewed range from 12MP to 20MP. Here’s the catch. Disclaimer: Nest’s familiar face detection feature is not available on Nest cameras used in Illinois. Wash Your Camera. If your camera has been exposed to salt water, you’ll want to make sure you immediately wash your camera (it’s already wet anyway!) to avoid corrosion. Salt and other minerals in water can create havoc for lenses and camera components if any residue is left. Many people think that the biggest risk to a camera at the beach is water. Even if the camera never gets near the ocean, the more problematic issue is dust, sand and debris. When these get near your camera, there are lots of things that can go wrong:Here’s how to protect your camera from dirt, dust, and sand with inexpensive items you’ve got sitting around the house. Nest Cam (indoor, wired) has a 2MP sensor, 135-degree field of view and 1080p video with HDR (High Dynamic Range) that’s optimized for the clearest possible view both day and night. We added software optimization which delivers sharpness, color accuracy and balance, and dynamic range without washed out whites. In cold and wet conditions, waterproof cameras are much easier to operate. Unless you have special gloves, most phone touch screens make it difficult to take photos without exposing your bare fingers. When it’s raining, most phone touchscreens treat falling raindrops the same as lots of fingers touching all over your screen. It can be quite frustrating to tell your phone to take photos when it treats every falling precipitation as an attempt to focus the camera or switch to a different app. That’s why even though your phone can survive getting wet, it’s no joy to operate a phone in wet or cold weather. Like the other tough cameras we considered, the FinePix has Bluetooth capability, allowing you to transfer your photos to a smartphone or tablet. The FinePix also has an electronic level so you can get the horizon level in your photographs. Optical image stabilization helps to reduce the blur that can happen when you zoom in. The newest feature of the XP140 is the smile shutter, which automatically takes photos “so you no longer miss the perfect photo.” Diversity and Inclusion Programs and Resources Fostering greater diversity in science and engineering

If your camera lets you change lenses, a lot of what I said above is even more relevant. If sand is flying around, never expose sensitive parts of your equipment. So, changing lenses on a sand dune — if it’s windy, at least — is not something I recommend. Very carefully pinch a hole on the front side, and pull it apart just enough so the front of the lens can fit through. You want this gap to be snug. Using the cable tie (or tape), close the hole tight.First, cover the camera whenever possible. In the desert, you won’t need to worry about moisture, so you’re better off choosing a camera cover that can deflect some of the heat. Space blanket material that’s designed to shield from heat can help avoid issues with the sensitive electronics in your camera body overheating. Waterproof down to 82 feet, the FinePix XP140 can be dropped from 6 feet and function in temperatures from -10 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The FinePix has 16 megapixels and a zoom lens that goes from 28-140mm. This updated model of the FinePix adventure camera can also shoot 4k-resolution video and has a Cinemagraph Mode that lets you take still images as you video. Video is at 15fps, which is much slower than other cameras. While a traditional camera uses a series of curved glass or plastic lenses to bend light rays into focus, the new optical system relies on a technology called a metasurface, which can be produced much like a computer chip. Just half a millimeter wide, the metasurface is studded with 1.6 million cylindrical posts, each roughly the size of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Preparation in filmmaking is half the battle. The beauty of working on a soundstage or inside is that you will likely have control of everything. When filming outside, that isn’t always the case — especially when it comes to dealing with the wind in a dusty or sandy environment.

Nest Cam Indoor uses a detachable USB-A / micro-B power cable and USB-A power adapter (both included in the box) to plug into an outlet for power. Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment Decarbonizing the world while increasing energy access worldwide Inspiration for the system came after a chance conversation with a colleague who wanted to put a lens on the end of a fibre. Now, researchers at Princeton University and the University of Washington have overcome these obstacles with an ultracompact camera the size of a coarse grain of salt. The new system can produce crisp, full-color images on par with a conventional compound camera lens 500,000 times larger in volume, the researchers reported in a paper published Nov. 29 in Nature Communications. So, don’t fixate just on a single subject and avoid moving. Normally, that might work in landscape photography — finding a good composition, and waiting there for the light — but I don’t recommend it here. Sand dunes simply have too many opportunities for photography. NIKON D800E + 35mm f/1.8 @ 35mm, ISO 100, 1.3 seconds, f/16.0
