The perfect addition to any family bookshelf, for help with school projects or for any young history enthusiast. There is as much, if not more, attention paid to the familial and personal aspects of England's kings and queens as there is to their domestic and foreign policies. Then again, Henry I was known because of his quick temper, and then that his death was the result of overeating lampreys! Year-by-year chronologies reveal the major events of each monarch's reign, while family trees trace the royal lineage and claim to the throne of each royal house. This is a book that I have had for a long time (1977), and which I have read and also dipped into at different times when I want a history of a time in England. Information-wise, the book is sufficient, but readers who already have a base familiarity with British monarchial history may be disappointed. In the Introduction, Antonia Fraser quotes Ralph Waldo Emerson, saying, "There is no history, only biography," which sums up this book nicely, as it is concerned just with the biographies of the monarchs of England, not with the history around them, and the quote does make a good point that human history is simply made up of biographies of people. The Lives of the Kings and Queens of England is worthwhile for readers looking to dip their toe into British monarchical history but inadequate for much else.Truth really is more exciting than fiction in this dramatic, real-life adventure showcasing the bravery, compassion and military prowess of a young Rani during the Indian uprising of 1857. The King and the Sea is a collection of 21 extremely short stories that each feature the same little king. T he Queen's Knickers by the same author has been a bestselling family favourite for 30 years, and won The Sheffield Children’s Book Award and The Coventry Inspirational Award.

Then, as the longest-serving Prince of Wales in British history, he dedicated decades of his life to raising awareness for conservation. For example, the wonderful Wolf Hall trilogy) I had thought that perhaps these non fiction accounts of the English monarchy from the Normans through to the current Elizabeth II might be a bit dry .On a positive note, Crofton smoothly presents the transition of ultimate monarchism to the ceremonial role it holds today; helping the reader understand the modern-day impact of their role.
