I would have liked to hear more about growing up in a small town with the ability to read minds. She says everyone refers to her as "crazy" (If I had a dollar for every time she used that word...) because of her telepathy, but it doesn't seem like anyone really treats her all that different (unless she listens in and reacts to what they're saying). Sophie-Anne✨ you are such a lovely queen and I really really love how u did everything! And I’d like to be part of your kingdom🙇🏽‍♀️ Bill, Sookie’s vampire, is caring and protective. He makes sure, as best as he can, that Sookie remains as safe as is possible.

Sookie asks Amelia to break her blood bond with Eric, which she does. Sookie learns Mr. Cataliades, having given Sookie's grandmother and grandfather some of his blood, is responsible for her telepathic abilities. Sookie sells some furniture to an antiques store where the owner, Donald Calloway, finds a secret compartment containing a letter from her grandmother and an object called a Cluviel Dor. Sookie's grandmother explains that the Cluviel Dor is a magical fairy love object which allows the possessor one wish and that it is now Sookie's. Sandra Pelt, Debbie's sister, hires people to kill Sookie, but they fail to do so. She then holds Sam and girlfriend Jannalyn Hopper at gunpoint, forcing them to take her to Sookie's house. Sookie shoots Sandra before Jannalyn kills her. Sookie, Eric and Pam plot to kill Victor and they succeed. And, while I'm comparing, I'll say that I like Sookie better here in the books than I do on True Blood, the HBO series inspired by the books. I say "inspired by," rather than "based on," because some of the changes are pretty substantial, though not necessarily bad - I like Bill better on the show, for example, and quite like the way Tara and Lafayette were changed/expanded. I love Eric in both versions :) Though her early output consisted largely of ghost stories, by the time she hit college (Rhodes, in Memphis) Charlaine was writing poetry and plays. After holding down some low-level jobs, her husband Hal gave her the opportunity to stay home and write. The resulting two stand-alones were published by Houghton Mifflin. After a child-producing sabbatical, Charlaine latched on to the trend of series, and soon had her own traditional mystery books about a Georgia librarian, Aurora Teagarden. Her first Teagarden, Real Murders, garnered an Agatha nomination. Vampires often turn on those who trust them. We don’t have human values, you know.” “A lot of humans turn on those who trust them,” I pointed out. I can be practical. “I’m not a total fool.”

It was written a bit too simply to hold my attention. The sex scenes were more Cinemax, not imaginative. And the character Sookie has an interesting talent but is otherwise incredibly dull. It was so amazing! I was also scared, happy during this book. I was scared together with the characters. I loved and fought with them. I suspected and resolved mysteries with them. Following the end of Sookie's recorded adventures, Charlaine wrote the "Midnight, Texas" books, which have become a television series, also. The Aurora Teagarden books have been adapted by Hallmark Movie & Mystery. Andy Bellefleur: Human and an insecure detective that feels he should be regarded with more respect. He is also a drunk.

I bought this boxed set knowing nothing about HBO's True Blood. Since then, I've become pretty much addicted to the show, but these fun, fast, quirky mystery/romance books have brought me hours of entertainment as well. It's a fair criticism that Sookie is so hot and cold when it comes to Bill - one minute it is "I love you" and the next minute it's "We need to break up" - but they do have some serious issues to deal with in their relationship. For examples, The residents of Bon Temps don't trust vampires. Bill's friends are vampires (and not all should be trusted). There is a killer murdering women who have been clearly bitten by a vampire (so, of course, he's a suspect). Sookie has to deal with the fact that Bill needs to occasionally feed on willing humans (fangbangers), which is a fairly intimate experience... just to name a few. That's why I didn't have a problem with Sookie's flip flopping so much; it was the fact that she did it without reason. I mean, she would literally be "I love you" and, without anything serious happening or a though popping into her head, tell him she needed space. And that is the author's fault. Andy Bellefleur - Human and an insecure detective that feels he should be regarded with more respect. He is also a drunk. I haven't finished reading the book yet but so far it's really interesting. I love vampire books and movies. If I wanted to, I could read books like this all the time. Not many things to say, but just this book, it’s worth it! It’s amazing and short and way better than the first!

So begins this series. I'm not going to lie and say these are some great literary accomplishment, but they're fun, light reads that are consistently entertaining. The characters are very likeable, and the mysteries are interesting and inventive. Boredom won’t be a problem here. Of course I am grateful, and I'm sure you are, as you put it, a special vintage," Bill said politely, "But I have my own wine cellar.”On the down side, I did find the books to be a little annoying at times, in particular with the main character Sooki. I found that it got to be a bit much in the romance department and instead of keeping Sooki with a few admirers, every man she came across in the book HAD to have her. She seemed to be kissing someone different every time you turn around and she comes off as incredibly naive and wishy washy when it comes to the men in her life. I also could have done without the parts with Quinn entirely. How do you judge a book? If it is by how well it is written, then 'Dead until Dark' would probably get about two stars at the most. On the other hand, if you are looking for easy reading material and are happy to let your imagination fill in some of the gaps and ignore some of the shortcomings, then as many others have done, you might even rate it five star. It was almost like Harris wrote Dead Until Dark as a homework assignment. It didn't feel like she had any passion for her characters - they were so cookie cutter, one-dimensional, and void of any kind of emotional depth, that it seemed like they were made up to tell the story rather than being the story.
