Chainsaw Man is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. The series' first part, "Public Safety arc" ( 公安編, Kōan-hen), ran in Shueisha's shōnen manga anthology Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 3, 2018, [1] [2] to December 14, 2020; [3] [4] following the series' conclusion in Weekly Shōnen Jump, a second part was announced to start on Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ online magazine. [5] On December 19, 2020, it was announced that the second part, "School arc" ( 学校編, Gakkō-hen), would feature Denji going to school. [6] The second part began serialization on July 13, 2022. [7] [8] Shueisha has collected its chapters into individual tankōbon volumes. The first volume was released on March 4, 2019. [9] As of August 4, 2023, 15 volumes have been released. [10] Volume 3 wraps up the subplot of the last volume where the main demon hunting crew gets trapped in a haunted hotel and the only way to escape is to offer up Denji as a sacrifice to the Eternity Demon. Man I love this series. It is over the top horror action and a helping dose of comedy. Volume 3 wraps up the events involving the eternity demon at the end of the last volume. Himeno and Denji did; however, officially become friends. They formed an alliance where Himeno will help set up Denji with Makima if Denji promised to help set up Himeno with Aki. So, in a relationship form, there was some development there, even if it is minor. The fact that Himeno and Denji are friends is also another big step.Still completely batty, over the top, cynical and bloody, volume 3 finishes one storyline and starts the next with a bang. Several, in fact. The craziness of the first two volumes is starting to settle in and we're starting to get a feel for the longer narrative. The art is gripping, but the quiet moments are actually better drawn than the action scenes which are sometimes quite hard to follow. Not sure where things are going to go from here, but unless vol 4 is a huge cop out, this book is going in a very different direction than other ensemble manga. Excited to see what happens next!
