Wi-Fi + Cellular models with embedded eSIM technology include iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation or later), iPadPro11‑inch (1st generation or later), iPad Air (3rdgeneration or later), iPad (7th generation or later) and iPad mini (5th and 6thgeneration).

In a nod to the unprecedented times we’ve all recently experienced, and the attendant Zoom boom, the front-facing selfie camera has been boosted to 12MP. It also features the handy Center Stage feature, which debuted on the iPad Pro (2021), which pans and zooms the camera automatically to ensure that you’re always in frame during video calls. The rear 8MP camera sensor is unchanged. With enough light, you can easily grab reference shots or scan documents with it. In low light, noise starts to creep in, and photos are shallower. And with AR tasks, depth perception seems slightly skewed. Better With iPadOS Pros: great performance, good battery life, good screen, iPadOS, plenty of apps, good speakers, very long support, recycled aluminium, Centre Stage camera. The displays have rounded corners. When measured diagonally as a rectangle, the iPad Pro 12.9‑inch screen is 12.9 inches, the iPad Pro 11‑inch screen is 11 inches, the iPad Air and iPad (10th generation) screens are 10.86 inches, and the iPad mini screen is 8.3 inches. Actual viewable area is less.

The cheapest iPad keeps getting better, and this year’s model continues the progression

The 10.2in iPad is still the best tablet for most people offering an unbeatable combination of value, performance, software and longevity. AppleCare+ provides unlimited incidents of accidental damage protection. Each incident is subject to an excess fee. The iPad is powered by the same two-year-old A13 Bionic core used in the iPhone 11 series, netting a 20% boost in processing power versus the A12 in the 2020 edition. While that may not seem like a ton of extra pep in the iPad’s step, it makes a significant difference in day-to-day use. It also means you’ll see at least three to four years of iPadOS updates Universal Control is one of my favorite additions to iPadOS. When placed next to your iMac or MacBook Air, your iPad becomes a second screen. You can drag and drop files between devices, and even use you Apple Keyboard and Magic Mouse without any additional setup. The Apple Pencil remains an essential companion accessory for taking notes (Photo: Steven Winkelman) The facility to use two apps at the same time, and manually control how much of the screen each takes up, was introduced in iPadOS 14, but the feature is now easier to use thanks to the new Multitasking menu that appears at the top of any app.

The step up from A12 Bionic to A13 Bionic isn’t quite such a big upgrade as the front camera – last year’s iPad didn’t exactly feel slow (and still doesn’t) – but it is another worthy improvement. In context, it’s the same processor as in the 2020 iPhone SE and the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max and, unsurprisingly, it performs on a similar level.

Like the iPad mini (2021), the iPad 10.2 (2021) arrives running iPadOS 15, Apple’s dedicated tablet version of iOS. As well as offering many of the features found in iOS 15, it’s designed to make the most of the tablet’s form factor, and as such, it brings refinements to multitasking.

The iPad has the old Touch ID home button but you can also use the more modern swipe gestures to get to the home screen and recent apps menu. Game availability for the 200+ titles across devices varies based on hardware and software compatibility. Some content may not be available in all areas. As its name tells you, the iPad 10.2 (2021) has a 10.2-inch screen. Apple first increased the size of the display on its entry-level iPad in 2019, and the extra half-inch of screen real estate has become the norm for Apple’s most affordable tablet. Benchmarks underscore our findings. The iPad scored 1,331 single-core (SC) and 3,516 multi-core on Geekbench 5. For comparison’s sake, the 2020 iPad scored 1,114 SC/2,474 MC, and the more expensive Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE scratched out 656 SC/1,959 MC on the same test.
