We couldn’t quite figure out how to dim the display on the H3 though, which might be problematic for your bedroom. Pure Evoke H3 review: Performance This is the third generation of Ruark’s mini radio, which now features a sharper OLED screen as well as the familiar top-mounted RotoDial controller. This makes the whole unit very simple to use. You’ll get Bluetooth connectivity and 10 presets apiece for DAB and FM, and the unit is also future-proofed with DAB+ support on board. Instructions for recovery can be found here: http://support.pure.com/kb_article.php?ref=5285-WVEM-0367 There are now more than 50 stations broadcasting nationally on DAB, along with many regional and local stations. You can listen to them without interference and – as long as you can get a signal – you’ll get flawless, clear digital sound. Of the 57 products, we discovered that 8 were more expensive and 48 were cheaper than Pure Evoke H3 DAB Radio. Prices from Pure

It looks like there is something wrong with this model regarding the auto update. If I had been able to turn off the auto update I think this could have been avoided. There was no need for it to update as I'd already done it manually. The unit sports a dual speaker, which is decent enough for a radio of this price, though the sound is little flat. If you’re after a bright and cheerful DAB that won’t cost the earth, this is an excellent choice. John Lewis plc, registered office: 171 Victoria Street, London SW1E 5NN. The Pure Evoke H3 is a radio that delivers high-quality audio and offers convenient features. It is designed to provide a reliable and durable performance over time. The thing that really makes the Pure Evoke H3 stand out when compared to alternatives like the H2, is the full-colour digital screen. The vivid screen presents radio station artwork in full colour.More information on quality can be found in this old but still very helpful article from Harvard Business Review. Pure support have been useless. They first of all suggested I do a reset even though I'd explained that I can't get the thing to even turn on. The problem started last week when it kept trying to update the software automatically - even though I have already installed the newest version (v1.8) last year via my PC. The next step after looking at products in the same category, was to look at products from the same brand, Pure.

All they have offered me is the opportunity to buy a new unit at reduced price as the out of warrenty repair people cannot offer me anything A 1960s split-level bungalow has been revived with contemporary extensions, cleaned lines, and Scandi-inspired interiors Volume can be boosted without too much distortion though with only a simple mono speaker on board, the audio is a bit weak compared to more highly priced units. A decent basic option if you’re after a durable little DAB that can be moved around at will. Interesting set of posts - My Evoke-3 also died last week with exactly the same issue - ie no screen, no response to keys, reset does not work - this unit was bought 2.5 years ago so also out of warranty The big, friendly buttons and dials are very easy to get the hang of, meaning that scrolling through stations at speed is child’s play. A glance at the spec list reveals it to be fairly basic, but you do get DAB+, 10 DAB presets and 10 for FM. And the NFC support means you can pair a device over Bluetooth simply by tapping it on the top of the radio in the designated spot. The sound quality of analogue radio can be patchy compared to digital, as it’s very sensitive to interference. That’s why you sometimes have to move the aerial, and even the radio around to get a good signal. Most DAB and internet radios also include an analogue tuner. 3. Internet radio It’s the sound quality, style, and general performance of the Pure Evoke H3 that makes it a great buy for those in need of a reliable DAB radio. This forward-thinking device is compact, easy to use, and brimming with functionality that just makes it a delight to use.

The dial is really easy to operate with your thumb if you’re holding the radio in one hand and sits alongside a small selection of polished metal buttons, which are all pretty intuitive to use. Evoke H3 allows digital radio and wireless music streaming to be enjoyed around the home. With an impressively vivid screen, radio station artwork is now displayed in full colour. The practical user interface and large scroll wheel makes using digital radio much easier than ever before. Evoke H3 is a compact design and available in oak or walnut finishes, making it the perfect radio for kitchen, bedroom or office. An increasing number of digital radio stations are broadcasting artwork and programme information. Evoke H3 can display this visual content in full screen and full colour. As other members have stated it appears that it is unable to be fixed by Pure's reapairer RadioFix.Evoke H3 can be powered by the supplied mains adapter or with the optional ChargePAK B1, giving you up to 30 hours of truly portable listening. On Mon 15/03 the radio was running plugged into mains power and a message came up which then said it was going to install a wi-fi upgrade, it then said that installation was in progress and that I should not turn off the radio. I left the radio installing, after a long while I noticed that aPure Evoke Flow logo had appeared on the display and that the update had appeared to be completed. I left the radio as it was for a while and then I unplugged it. Often, when we review a Pure radio, style is one of the first things we notice. The Evoke H3 has a very similar appeal to many of the other items in the Evoke series. It looks a bit like the slimmer version of the C-D4, with its authentic wood finish and bold white faceplate. Any Evoke-3 radio suddenly reporting the need for a software upgrade will appear with a message on the screen saying something along the lines of 'Waiting for Upgrade - Press any key to exit'. How many presets does it have? Most radios offer presets, but their usefulness depends on how many different stations you listen to. Five preset buttons might not be enough if you like to chop and change between stations.
